The Rometty is based on our traditional 2976 pattern with a thick, platform sole to take this style to the next level. Accentuated heel and vamp pannels add a contemporary feel to a well-known style. Dr. Martens is the stuff of legends. It all began near Munich, Germany in 1945 when Dr. Klaus Maertens injured his foot in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps. To make walking easier during the healing process, he designed a shoe with an air-cushioned sole. Using old rubber tires, he constructed soles that had air trapped within closed compartments. He showed his prototype to his engineer/inventor friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they decided to develop and produce the shoes. Not only did the shoe solve the doctor's immediate problem, but it also started to sell well in Germany. By 1959 the two decided that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. At first, many manufacturers rejected the concept of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group, located in the village of Wollaston in England, decided to go along with the idea by creating the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. On the first of April 1960, the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460. To sell the brand name better in England, the name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was branded AirWair and the rest is history.

Dr. Martens, also known as Doc Martens, Docs, or DMs, has stomped its way into history since 1901. Originally created by Dr. Klaus Maertens, a German soldier who designed a comfortable air-cushioned boot to aid his recovery from a broken foot, the footwear quickly gained popularity. In 1960, the brand we know today was born with the iconic 1460 boot, adopted by British working-class youth and later embraced by various subcultures for its durability and rebellious spirit.
Dr. Martens prioritizes both timeless design and rugged construction. Their shoes are instantly recognizable by their air-cushioned sole, yellow stitching, and utilitarian details. Made with high-quality leather, Dr. Martens boots and shoes are built to withstand years of wear and tear, making them a true investment piece.
Bought these boots to wear while working fast paced as a barista. They are very comfortable, requires minimal breaking in, and so far have been slip resistant! They are extremely cute and stylish. I was concerned about whether or not I’d like them- the last Docs I purchased were extremely uncomfortable and painful. I would buy these boots again and recommend them to the baristas I work with. Love love love. I very consistently wear a size 8. Purchased these in a 7 and they are just right.
Ok so these reviews struck me as a little much, because come on, docs take a while to love you back. Then, they arrived. The reviews are soft-peddling the experience. These are elite. Theyre chonky but not heavy, and the proportions are elegant af. Leather is buttery. I normally wear a 9, and got these in 9 despite the size-down reviews. Lengthwise they were perfect but I had room width/heightwise, so added shearling insoles. Now they feel like puffy, bouncy slippers. Hand to god I'm gonna have these things' babies. BUY THEM NOW
I ordered size 6 while I usually wear a size 7 in all my Dr. Martens. The size 6 fits perfectly, no thick socks required. I love these and now I can sell my size 7 ones since I figured out that they simply are too big. Some reviews state they are hard to get in and out but I feel like it's manageable. They look super cute with everything!
I bought these specifically for work because I'm normally very uncomfortable in other brands of work shoes. These are my second pair of docs. My first were great but for someone with a flatter foot than me so took a long and uncomfortable time for me to get truely used to, but they lasted a good long while and when they did finally need replacing I found these. The ankle is tighter, but not unexpectedly so and true to size as far as I can tell. They also immediately didn't hurt my foot or cause issues with walking like my first pair, so they'll definitely be comfortable to walk in while I'm on my feet. Overall I have a good feeling about these guys.
While I think these boots are cute I'm not so sure they are my favorite. I do have 5 other styles in my collection, ( 1460 Pascal leather, 1460 Smooth leather, Audrick platform, white 2976 chelsea platform, and the Jadon platform ). I wear a size 9.5 or 10 in other boots but, ALWAYS a size 9 in doc martens. While the Rometty size 9 fits there are significant differences compared to my others. This boot is much wider than the others and sizing down to an 8 would not work length wise. Either wearing thicker socks or adding insoles would solve that problem but, these have really soft leather that might stretch far too much over time. Even though the shoes are wider they have a narrowed silhouette in the toe box which I dislike visually compared to the other styles. This leather will crease very easily due to the pliable leather. This does not bother me. The sole seems to be different as well and I'm not sure it is as durable. I guess I'm still on the fence about keeping them. I have absolutely NO trouble putting them on or off and know there is NO break in time for a leather as soft as this. I did receive these in the original box with natural leather striations . While the price is reasonable for the Rometty I may just have to spend another 100 for the black Chelsea platforms as my white ones are just AWESOME !!! Have in fact decided to keep these. They do look amazing with the right clothes. Hopefully the elastic goring on these boots will stand up to the test of time. It does not appear to be near as sturdy as on the quad 2976.
Super durable and cute. The ankle part is really tight at first but stretches out. I’m usually an 8-8.5 and the 8 fits with plenty of room.
I have plantar fasciitis and was looking for something that would be stylish, fun, and super comfy without giving me foot pain. I was a little hesitant when they arrived, because I REALLY had to force my foot into the boot since they don't unzip or anything, and I was so disappointed. After much tugging and several deep breaths, I was able to get my feet into the boots. I decided to walk around the house in them to see how they felt, which was instantly comfortable. BUT, I dreaded talking them off as I wasn't sure if I could get them back on again! I was very near packaging them back up and returning them, but I decided to try again the next day to see if they had stretched out at all after wearing them around the house. Thankfully, they had! I was so happy! A few weeks in now, and I have worn them standing all day, shopping all day, (they were great on icy snowy sidewalks for grip and keeping my feet dry and happy) and they feel great! The opening has stretched out perfectly so I can pretty easily get them on and off! I do suggest wearing at least crew length socks so they don't rub on your shins before they are broken in. These do add quite a bit of height, and make me (at 5'10") tower over my (also 5'10") husband, but I'm trying to embrace it. 😉 I wear a size 10, have wide feet, and very high arches, and these have the perfect amount of room!
I was so looking forward to these boots and wanted them for so long, but I was heartbroken to find they were incredibly painful to have on my feet. I have "normal" feet (not wide, not special) yet I was in absolute pain trying these shoes on when they arrived. Without even walking in them, the pain was so much that I immediately wanted to take the shoes off my feet. I believe the problem may be that the toe box is very narrow and the upper is very tight and firm. The actual foot bed/sole fit me perfectly, so I don't believe it's a sizing issue. I believe it's a style issue. These are very beautiful boots of high quality, and I really wish I could wear them. Again, my feet are normal. If you have very narrow feet, they may work for you.
