Back in the 80s, the 8065 shoe turned the tradition of impractical women’s footwear on its head. Fusing a classic T-bar fastening with a rugged AirWair sole, the well-trodden silhouette remains a favorite to this day. This edition stays true to the Original construction, with tough Smooth leather and signature yellow welt stitching. Dr. Martens is the stuff of legends. It all began near Munich, Germany in 1945 when Dr. Klaus Maertens injured his foot in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps. To make walking easier during the healing process, he designed a shoe with an air-cushioned sole. Using old rubber tires, he constructed soles that had air trapped within closed compartments. He showed his prototype to his engineer/inventor friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they decided to develop and produce the shoes. Not only did the shoe solve the doctor's immediate problem, but it also started to sell well in Germany. By 1959 the two decided that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. At first, many manufacturers rejected the concept of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group, located in the village of Wollaston in England, decided to go along with the idea by creating the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. On the first of April 1960, the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460. To sell the brand name better in England, the name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was branded AirWair and the rest is history.

Dr. Martens, also known as Doc Martens, Docs, or DMs, has stomped its way into history since 1901. Originally created by Dr. Klaus Maertens, a German soldier who designed a comfortable air-cushioned boot to aid his recovery from a broken foot, the footwear quickly gained popularity. In 1960, the brand we know today was born with the iconic 1460 boot, adopted by British working-class youth and later embraced by various subcultures for its durability and rebellious spirit.
Dr. Martens prioritizes both timeless design and rugged construction. Their shoes are instantly recognizable by their air-cushioned sole, yellow stitching, and utilitarian details. Made with high-quality leather, Dr. Martens boots and shoes are built to withstand years of wear and tear, making them a true investment piece.
I absolutely love these shoes. They’re great quality. Comfortable right away [more so after a very short break in period] Yes the buckles can be a pain and the straps are short, but they’re not impossible to deal with. I’d recommend using a shoe horn if you plan to keep them buckled as the leather in the back looks like it may separate from the inner leather if you aggressively try to shove your foot in. Though they are pretty durable so it might not. They are bright white so any scuffs I’ve gotten this far I’ve been able to remove with a simple pencil eraser.I am normally a size 9 in all other shoes but with docs I’m always a size 8. I have 8 other pairs of docs and they’re all 8’s. These fit as expected for docs - meaning they fit when you size down. They are comfy and super adorable especially with the cute socks you can pair them with. I want them in different colors now.
Decided on these when on the quest for winter boots. I swear I owned these in the 90s too!!! Seriously love them. I wear moleskin on my heels just in case it they’ve walked 6 miles with no blisters or discomfort. They look cute no matter what. They’re just cool. I get compliments from young n old. Totally true to size.
My daughter is doing a lot of walking and bike riding on her 18 month church mission so these shoes were not only recommended but also have proven to be sturdy and durable. Not to mention how cute they are!!
I love these so much. these are my favorite shoes now and it was truly worth the money. I’m usually a 5 1/2 sometimes 6 with certain brands sometimes 5. I was very anxious deciding what shoes to get that my poor boyfriend was sick of me panicking over getting the right size. I went with the smaller size and they fit absolutely perfect. they are quite snug however once they are broken in they will most likely be shaped to my foot. DO NOT get the bigger size because with these shoes especially if they are even a bit too big they are very uncomfortable and will cause horrible blisters. The 5 I got is very snug however they are pretty comfortable.
I bought these shoes to go with an assortment of church culottes and pants that I've been purchasing lately. I have two pairs of ballet flats, one gold colored, and one red velvet. They don't exactly universally translate to some of the culottes, and for a couple of them, I definitely can't wear my blinged out flip flops because that would make them look to casual. So I may end up donating a couple pairs of shoes to make room for these. So the most important thing I think you should be aware of is that the buckles on these are super hard to get open. I had a very tough time with it, and I strength train, play piano, crochet...that's not a "whoo-hoo look at me" moment, but rather a "I do a lot of things that promote hand strength and these were unpleasantly difficult to get open" moment. So if you have arthritis, or fine motor challenges, heads up. It's always possible it could have just been my pair, but...this has been my honest experience with the pair that I got. They were so difficult to open it damaged some of the straps in doing so, I have attached a picture of that.Next up: I have Achilles tendon issues on my right ankle. So, I wasn't really sure if I'd be wanting to keep these because they press firmly in a bit at the back, I wore them around the house for about the length of time I'd be in them for a church day just to see. And I think I'll survive them. But if you have heel spurs, I'm guessing these also might not be the most comfortable thing for you.I have really wide feet for a woman, and these things fit fine, so I would say these are cut a bit on the wide side and if you have a narrower foot and have your heart set on these you may need to wear them with really thick socks.Otherwise, these are super cute and I love the color!Edit 7/15: I just want to mention real quick, I put some heel inserts in these, the kind that are typically worn for plantar fasciitis, and it helped with the back of my heel area, so that may help if you have anything tender on the back of your heel and really want to use these. I also tried my husband's shoe horn so that I could leave these buckled and get my feet in without hurting my tendon, and that helped a bunch also. So just a couple tricks you can try if your heat is set on these :)
My daughter wanted these for Christmas. We knew what size to get because she tried them on at a store otherwise I would have been a little unsure because there aren’t half sizes. They’re comfortable and she loves them.
I am so in love with this white DM Mary Janes! Contrary to what I've read in reviews and other sites, I was able to wear these for half a day without experiencing any major pains. If at all, there was a little pressure at the tongue part but I loosened up the buckle a bit after using it for 2 hours and the pressure was gone. I also tried to "crumple" the tongue a bit to soften the leather. I am a true size 7 and this came a bit loose but I also wear customized insoles for my plantar fasciitis and with a bit of thick socks, the fit was perfect! I plan to wear these w/o socks but I want to break them in first. It was delivered fast! I am from the Philippines and the package came 10 days before the estimated delivery date!Four stars because it is a bit heavy to wear all day but I am not planning on doing that. All in all, I happy with my purchase!Oh and I ordered 2 pairs, one is for me, the other is for my niece who will celebrate her birthday soon. She is crazy about DMs!
