My 8 year old daughter has been wearing this one pair of shoes (in black leather) to school every day for 7 hours a day for four months and I am pleased to report that these are by far the most durable of all the school shoes we've tried. I typically buy nicer shoes for school (i.e. Pediped, Jumping Jacks, etc.) The playground at our school has pea gravel and these are the only shoes that have held up. Every pair of shoes we've tried gets terribly scuffed across the toes, some of them on the first wear. I don't know how this shoe does it, but they still look pristine after all this time! They often get dusty from the playground, but a simple wipe down is all it takes and they're good to go. My only complaint is that the strings along the Mary Jane strap tend to fray or have little strings that have to be cut or burned off from time to time. Again, we've had much more expensive shoes that did this far worse. These shoes have a nice, cushy foot bed and they fit my daughter's trim feet very well. I would not hesitate to purchase these again. In fact, this will be the shoe I'll be buying next year when she outgrows this pair. I'm very picky and want my kids' shoes to look nice every time they put them on and these shoes have been incredible. Buy them. You won't regret it.
I read the reviews before I purchased this shoe and am glad to say they didn't disappoint. At the start of the school year I had purchased 2 paris of Stride Rite shoes but still needed a brown pair of "mary janes". I found these on Amazon. Now I wished I purched ALL my daughter's shoes from School Issue. These prodigy shoes are fantastic. After only one wearing of Stride Rite shoes, the toe area is completely scuffed. The next day, I had my daughter wear the Prodigy shoes. Not one toe scuff. It looks great. I feel good about these shoes and I feel they will last. They are sturdy and solid. I plan to reurn the Stride Rite ones and purchase these in black and navy. Great shoes!UPDATE: 7/21/2014: It's one year later and I wanted to give an update. I am ordering these shoes again for the upcoming school year but I did want to say, I wouldn't have to order them again if my daughter hadn't grown out of them. I ended up ordering black and navy as well as the brown ones at the start of school last year. They held up so very well. The toes are hardly scuffed at all. If only I could get her foot to stop growing, she'd could probably wear these another entire year.
We buy these shoes every year for our school uniform. They are very comfortable & my daughter can wear them all day. One pair lasts until almost the end of the year, but by May the strap separates from the velcro. The first couple of years I used a heavy duty needle & thread to sew the strap back together. This year I got smart & had a shoe repairman sew the strap with heavy duty thread before school started. Considering the cost & fit, it's fine with me. Other shoes have only lasted until January, so these held up pretty well. If these are just going to be dress up shoes or church shoes, they will last really well.
They might be a bit more pricey than you would normally spend on a kids shoe however they are worth every dollar and then some. My daughter wears these shoes to her school as part of her schooll uniform. At first I was put off at the price. But I found the best thing about these shoes is that they wear VERY WELL. Uber comfy, supportive shoes made with high quality sole, comfortable/soft inside lining, and the leather is the best. Hence the price! They looked brand new when she grew out of first pair after 7 months. Didn't even flinch when buying the 2nd pair today!
My grand likes them
We ordered these shoes on August 3rd based on the overwhelmingly positive reviews and they were promptly delivered three days later. Our daughter wore them to school on September 10th. and returned home with them in a deplorable condition.According to the product specs the upper part of the shoe is supposed to be made out of "rugged leather" however the membrane-thin brown top layer was stripped off like plastic revealing an unsightly dark material underneath.Shoddy, cheap and, at $43 a pop, a definite rip-off. Unfortunately as international customers we are unable to return this product for a refund.Claims from previous reviewers that these shoes are sturdy, long-lasting and scuff-resistant certainly do not pertain to the pair that we received.
These shoes are awesome. They do not scuff or wear down on the outside at all. I have never had to polish them. After an entire school year, they look like they are in perfect/new condition. My daughter's foot growing is the only reason I have to buy new ones. This will be the third pair I have purchased; the other two lasted entire school years without any wear. And, she says they are very comfortable. They are perfect for playground play as well as non-slip on floor surfaces. We have had other comparable brands, but for "dress shoes/school shoes" this brand wins hands-down.
I have bought this shoe many times because it's uniform for my daughters school. Normally I feel it's a good shoe. Looks nice. Lasts long. But the last pair I ordered my daughter said something was "in her shoe" hurting her. I took her foot out and looked and didn't see anything. I told her there was nothing there and sent her to school. She comes home walking on the toes of her feet saying her foot hurt all day. She takes it off and says feel mom, something is here. So I feel the sole of the shoe by the heel and sure enough it's very sharp. I rip up the insole and look underneath and to my horror there are 4 staples sticking straight up!! Going right into her foot. The poor girl wore the shoe all day like that. I contacted Amazon and they were great with sending out a replacement. The new pair was fine. If you buy this shoe feel the inside first to make sure nothing is poking through and if your child says something is poking them check it out.
