This is a very comfortable shoe but it runs small and narrow. I originally ordered a 9.5 wide, I have wide feet. I have a pair of Columbia crestwood low in 9.5 and they fit great. I had to return the Redmond and get a 10 wide. When I compared the last of the crestwood to the Redmond, the Crestwood actually has 1/2 inch more on the outer aspect of the sole and shoe in the toe box than the Redmond. Therefore I would use “ wide” very loosely. Also this shoe feels very much like a sneaker, an older version Nike Pegasus without the zoom heel for stability. Comfortable and may wear well, but not a firm fitting heel. This is a nice shoe and I am sure I will be happy with this as I have been with all Columbia shoes I have owned but beware! It is a narrow shoe and runs small.I have had 3 days now and have gone about 20 miles on hikes of flat wet field, small hills and pine forest. As the show wears in the shoe conforms well. The original thought of the heel changed as the cushion conforms more to my foot and seems more stable. The Omni-Tread works very well for wet muddy hills for traction. Great shoe.
I give this shoe 5 stars.Very comfortable - I walk 2-4 miles every day. Warm - I've been walking in 30-40 degree weather for the last month - feet are always warm. Waterproof - I walk through wet grass almost every day - feet are bone dry. Nice grip on the bottom for sidewalks or trails.Size - if you are between sizes, definitely order the larger size. I'm typically a size 9.5 or 10 depending on the shoe. I ordered these in 9.5, but had to send them back. 10 fits perfectly.
I much prefer hiking boots with ankle support so I bought these for work where I sit at a desk half the time and walk around the facility the other half of the time. But I did try them on a few trails just to see how well they suit that purpose and the did well. I took one star off because after only a few months of mostly indoor use they are already splitting at one of the seams. I will buy these again though, they have remained comfortable the entire time and they seem to be amazingly resistant to odors.
I wanted to treat myself to a quality hiker for a change. I use them primarily for casual wear. Not sure how they would do on the trail but they are very comfortable. I feel they would do just fine. They do run small however. I usually wear an 11 regular. I first ordered an 11.5 regular and the length was fine but they were very tight across the top. I returned and ordered an 11.5 wide and they are perfect. Very light and comfortable. I have not had a chance to see if they are waterproof but I did wear them in the snow and my feet were warm and dry. Very happy with purchase.
I am bummed these didn't fit because I could tell they would be super comfortable and I loved the look. I wear 12W, and could barely fit into the 12W I received. Contrast with 12W from Merrell, which were if anything slightly too large (and the arch seemed slightly off, which I never experienced in a shoe before). I needed hiking shoes for a trip to Yosemite, so I kept the Merrells, but I may still buy these Columbias in a larger size. Problem is they don't seem to make a 12.5 W, and I expect 13 will be too big, so it might not work out.
In one word, these shoes are CRAP. although I've had them for almost 2 years, I haven't worn them much at all, and they certainly haven't had hard use. The only places I've worn them are around my house and yard, and to town - almost exclusively on hard surfaces. I've never worn them hiking or on rough country. I seriously doubt that they have 100 miles on them, and as I stated, they were all easy miles. Nevertheless, just the other day the whole side of one of them blew out : a rip five inches long, on the outside, just above where the upper and the sole join - unrepairable. In addition, the glue holding the sole to the upper is has come undone at the toe on both shoes, and if I hadn't reglued them with Shoe-Goo (I don't know how long that'll last), it could pose a pretty serious tripping hazard.Crappy, inferiors quality. Don't waste your money
Since I purchased these shoes I've worn them in the rain in Maryland, the cloud forest in Panama's mountains, and in two rainy seasons in Panama. They are waterproof as long as you don't step in water that goes above the top laces. Even in Maryland summers and Panama my socks only got slightly damp from sweat. I really wasn't expecting waterproof hiking shoes to be breathable, so I was pleasantly suprised. The soles gripped the ground so I felt secure when hiking on muddy, rocky trails. I'm in my 70's so having secure footing is a must. These shoes performed wonderfully!
I was hoping for more out of these hiking shoes. They are definitely water resistant, but that makes them not breathe very well. When I wear these, my feet quickly get very hot and sweaty - they feel really stuffy and it's obvious the waterproofing prevents any ventilation. The size was accurate, but no matter how tightly you lace them, they are loose around the heel making it too easy to roll your ankle while wearing. I was hoping for more of a fit like an athletic sneaker (I hate high top shoes due to discomfort), but these are just not snug at all around the heel/ankle.
