As promised, these were truly comfortable straight out of the box. Even though they're supportive and very solid, they did not need any breaking in at all. Bought them for a trip to Colorado and never got a single blister. The soles are really grippy on various terrains and these were perfect for short hikes. After hiking for a couple hours on rocky ground, though, my feet did get a little tired and I felt some softer cushioning would be nice. They look really decent too, and in Colorado at least, work for just about anywhere. No rain at all, so haven't been able to test their waterproofing yet. Thanks, Merrell, for making an affordable all-around solid shoe!
Merrell hiking boots are my fav. they are comfortable and fit as expected. The toe area is round rather than narrow giving your feet plenty of room. These shoes have very good arch support. The color is exactly as pictured.I Love these shoes. Just like any other shoe, it’s best to break them in before long hikes. I do this by wearing them around the house for 1-2 hours at a time. These shoes are well made and look high quality- because they are.
Well, it took three tries and ten pairs of shoes using Try Before You Buy, but I finally found exactly what I wanted—a pair of sturdy, supportive shoes with excellent tread. I ordered up a half size because I plan to wear these in what passes for winter where I live, and that’s perfect with wearing a pair of good quality socks. They were half price too, so that makes it even better. They were comfortable out of the box, and I’ve been wearing them to physical therapy where I will be starting to walk on uneven ground.
I bought these a month before hiking in the grand canyon, zion and yosemite. I did not have much time to break them in as I had a blister on my heal from another pair of shoes. Size 8 they were comfortable and held up well.
Fits perfectly. Supportive shoe for hiking. We hiked in national parks with these shoes. Comfortable from day one. Attractive. Great arch support.
I don't like shoes, my feet don't like shoes, if I can at all get away with going barefoot I will but was going on a winter trip and we'll, shoes are required. I went shoe shopping and these (and one other Merrell pair) where the only shoes that fit, didn't hurt, and I have to admit I ended up loving. Right from the box, these fit, and needed little break in time, my feet never felt overly tight or restricted, or unbalanced. They have a great arch support inside and they lace up wonderfully. I would walk in these for hours without my feet tiring out after a few minutes as they aren't heavy. After months they still look brand new. I did scotch garden them before first wear for extra protection because of rain and possibly snow.As far as size goes? I wear size 9 women's and men's almost universally across-the-board in most athletic shoes. According to Merrell I am also a size 9. But in these I ordered a 10 and feel that was the right choice. They fit perfectly with regular and/or thick socks. Just my experience.
These did not resist water in the least. The 2nd time I wore them was walking through a lower cut grass field and I could feel water seeping in from the Dew on the grass. I bought these to replace my last pair which remained waterproof for several years. The only reason I am giving 3 stars not 1 is because they are comfortable and fit same as my last pair. I am very disappointed as I will have to find something different as the weather gets colder.
An excellent fit for an excellent price. Thank you.
