After looking for a long time for a pair of outdoor vegan shoes that I could wear in the harsh MN winters, I came upon these. Although it's not advertised as being vegan, non of the materials mentioned seemed to be animal derived. These are great shoes even if you don't care that they are vegan. They feel comfortable and seem to be very durable although the snow has not come yet and it hasn't been field tested for it's waterproof ability. The only small con is that the laces come up too close to the top of the shoe and when tied it pushes the tounge down into the top part of my ankle so I had to loosen up the laces a little and after wearing it a few times, I don't notice it much. May just be that I have not worn these type of "rugged" shoes for a while and my feet are not used to it. The sizing seems right. They do look a little narrow but I don't have wide feet so the size that I normally get worked for me. In any case, gave these five stars for the appearance, comfort, durability(guessing) and the fact that no animals were used in making the shoes! Peace to all of earth's creatures.
I've only hiked in them about 5 times and only 9 miles at the longest hike (up and down hills). So far I'm happy with them. I bought it a half size big in anticipation of feet swelling during my long distance hike and they tie down pretty well with tight lacing. They are true to size and comfortable soles. The waterproofing works well in several stream crossings. Outside dries quick. The treads are good and gives good traction in most terrain. Not slippery on rocks. Pretty lightweight. They are good hiking shoes. I wouldn't really wear them for trail running. There are better choices for that. But for hiking in multiple conditions and possible wet conditions, I thought they were great. I'm going to buy a 2nd pair to mail ahead of my hiking destination.Several people on REI.com has complained about the side stitching that comes loose after months of wear. If so, REI has a 100% return policy so hopefully this Amazon store does something similar.
I have only worn the shoes for 5 days but I am so excited to write a review because shoes are a rare commodity which I always thought you have to actually try and walk around in first before buying them. But I took a chance based on the reviews and thought to myself I can always return them if they are less than satisfactory. I have been wearing size 9.5 sneakers but based on the reviews I ordered size 10. To my surprise they are a perfect fit. They are light and they look good and are comfortable to walk in and even to run in. I bought the shoes because I am going to Germany, Switzerland and Italy and our friend wants to take us hiking in Switzerland. She said sneakers would be too soft. I only want to bring 1 pair of shoes. From their looks these shoes would do the job from hiking, walking and then having a casual dinner at night. Just one issue which may be just particular to me. My left ankle bone is big and always hits the topline quarter of the left shoe. I replaced the insoles with thicker ones I bought at walmart for $11 so now they are perfect. I will give an update when I return from Europe.
this is a nice shoe for almost any sort of outdoor/wilderness activity. The waterproofing is exceptional and has kept my feet dry even when dunked into water up to the tongue. The problem with this shoe is that the sole is glued on. I had these shoes for less then a month and the sole started coming apart on both shoes. I used some superglue and put them back together, this was over a year ago now and i still wear the shoes on a daily basis and they are still together. I recommend if you end up buying the shoe also invest in some gorilla glue!!!!
I ordered a pair for my son and husband. Both love them. I had to send both pair to my son in Virginia because oddly, Amazon won't send this product directly to an APO address (only complaint I have). My son first thought they were a bit narrow, but on second wearing, they felt very comfortable and now he wears them daily. He normally wears an 8 1/2 or 9 and the 9 fits well.My husband's experience was the same. He broke a toe 15 years ago which makes finding a comfortable shoe difficult. Initially, the shoes were tight and he took them off after only a couple hours. But, he wore them the next day and they stretched out perfectly. He spent 3 hours washing cars in December cool temperatures and they passed the test. Comfortable and water proof. His normal size 11 fit perfectly. He wears them each weekend and they'll be perfect walking in city snow and water in January.Based on this experience, you can't go wrong with these shoes for day to day city wear and dress down days at work during Fall/Spring/Winter months. The added benefit: they look great.
This is the second pair of Raith eVents that I have gotten. For me, it is almost perfect. The reason I say this is that it is the only pair of shoes that I own with which I do not need an orthotic insert in order to prevent foot pain. This might just be me since my foot pain originated with a stress fracture during the 1990s. Anyway, my feet feel great without any inserts when I wear these shoes, which is every day. I also do a lot of walking, averaging about 3 miles a day (in the city), so I guess you can say they are wear-tested. Some reviewers complain that they are hot. I have not found this to be a problem. Other reviewers have complained that Teva shoes are undersized. This, I think, is true. I'd say they are undersized by about 1/2 size. Another complaint is that they start tearing here and there after a few months. For me, two small tears appeared after six months. All in all, and in spite of the defects just noted, I give them 5 stars because of their comfort and good looks.
