I previously purchased the blue/gray version of these shoes, and really liked them. They started falling apart after about 2 years of wear, so I decided to buy these as a replacement. Unfortunately, it seems Calden has started cutting corners, because the pair I received are inferior in just about every way.First and foremost, these shoes create a very audible squeaking/squishy noise with every step I take. This is because, unlike previous versions which housed built-in height-increasing insoles, these use cheap removable foam inserts. As you push off the ground with your toes, the inserts slide around in the shoe, resulting in the aforementioned squeak. I fixed this with super glue.Second, the tongue doesn't stay flat when the shoe is tied, causing constant friction between the bunched-up fabric and the top of my foot. The relief I feel in taking these things off at the end of the day is impossible to describe.Lastly, this new construction/design has moved the mouth to a lower position than before. They barely qualify as high-tops anymore. While it may not seem like a big deal, the mouth must therefore be larger to accommodate the shoe sitting lower on your foot. Additionally, if you look at the shoes from the side, the slope is quite a bit steeper than before. This essentially shatters the illusion of these being normal shoes, since normal shoes don't have such large openings, nor do they slope upwards so quickly. Unless you wear boot-cut jeans, it'll be plainly obvious to anyone who looks at these that there's something a little off. It's a shame. This used to be my go-to brand, but it looks like I'll have to start shopping around again.
Two grommets popped out after only a few weeks of minimal use. Didn’t realize these were elevator shoes either, and the heel is so raised that it makes it hard to walk or stand comfortably.
The inside height increaser started to fall apart after a week of use...the material started to lump, so now when i use them they hurt to walk in.. :(
