Badminton kingpin Jack Purcell was good. So good in fact, that onetime tire company B.F. Goodrich gave him a signature shoe back in the mid '30s. His iconic design, with it's forefoot 'smile', transcended Jack's career post-retirement, becoming a performance tennis piece too, and Converse snapped up the rights to make the shoe in the '70s. It's another classic that refuses to age. Periodically these become hard-to-obtain in certain colours, but supplies have been pretty plentiful lately, and these canvas versions are perfect.

This is my first pair of Purcell’s that is SO comfortable. This isn’t my first pair, but it definitely won’t be my last. I remember my first pair, my feet had a hard time adjusting to the shoe. It was tight in some places and my feet wouldn’t last for more than 3 hours. They discontinued this shoe and for some reason brought it back. Now, I can tell the difference. It feels like I’m walking on clouds. It’s that comfortable! I’m definitely getting another pair after these are worn out.
Fit: Slightly (mildly) on the large side.Comfort: Slightly above average (more comfortable than the typical skater shoe, but not as comfortable as classic Converse).Aesthetics: Perfect for what I was looking for and looks cute with dresses, skinny jeans, joggers, and cuffed / rolled up boyfriend jeans (with ankle or no-show socks, of course).Quality: It's not the Jack Purcell's that I'm accustomed to with the navy insole and the navy embroidered brand name, but it'll do.
I've owned a pair of these shoes before, these will be my second pair. I bought these as I was looking for a low profile summer shoe and these fit the bill perfectly. I enjoy the style much more than the Allstars, as I feel these have a more adult look to them. While I mainly use these as summer shoes to be worn with shorts, pairing these with a polo and some jeans will still look good. Once it comes time to replace these I plan on buying the same ones.
I've been wearing Converse All Stars since the early sixties. The Jack Purcell is the same sneaker minus some stripes. I don't understand the gripe about "feet burning"? I have "medium" feet? Normal feet? I don't have flat feet nor do I have high arches. Just regular feet. Converse sneakers are THE most popular sneakers in the world. Don't lace them so tight, wear crew socks and stop jumping out of trees and off roof tops and you'll be fine. They are a casual wear sneaker, not an athletic sneaker. Relax. Be casual. One point, they are canvas not leather. I knew that before I bought them. Amazon should edit the description.
Let me start by saying these are my first pair of converse and I can't believe I have never owned a pair in 32 years. I bought these in 7 men/8.5 women. I normally wear a 9 women, they fit great. I remembered my son's converse ran about a size big so I got these .5 smaller in case. They are narrow as others have mentioned, but after a couple wears are stretching. These are a class up from the All stars and a perfect Spring/Summer shoe for a mom on the go!
Just like they used to be. But more expensive (as is everything else, it seems, these days! No removable insole, the only thing I can criticize is the laces are a bit long, but overall nice value
I love these so much. More comfortable than basic converse but still super simple and goes with everything. I even wear them for work meetings.
I am a nurse who works 12 hour shifts (no breaks "to play cards") and wear these tennis shoes to run all day. I have worn Jack Purcell tennis shoes for twenty years and am never disappointed in the fit - they fit perfectly every time.
