Almost two years ago I suffered a pretty severe ankle break and dislocation. After surgery and several months of physical therapy I realized my old shoes no longer fit. This bummed me out because I'd just purchased a pair of nice hiking boots to wear while Jeeping. My injured ankle/foot just wouldn't go in them.Turns out my foot had changed size in the process. Between the lingering swelling and whatever happened to my foot in the process, I went from a 8.5-9 to a 9.5-10.I saw these Bearpaw hikers and decided to give them a try since they were a wide width and looked like they were high enough to avoid rubbing the surgical scar while supporting my ankle. They just arrived today and I wore them the past couple hours to get my foot accustomed to them and see how well they fit. So far I'm happy! The foot is wide enough that my bad foot slid right in with no effort. I was able to tighten it around my ankle enough to "hug" without it poking or being annoying. The boots feel like they're very well made. The Bearpaw brand was familiar to me as I'd bought another pair of boots from this brand in the past and really liked them. The insoles aren't really "cushy" but supportive enough and there's plenty of room to add an insole if required. If I had to give one minor complaint, it would be that the color wasn't quite the same on the actual boot compared to the photo. I got the grey with purple accents. They're nice looking colors together but the odd part is the purple on the sole is more of a pink color than a purple. But it's a minor thing since the bottoms aren't going to be visible when wearing.Side note: I purchased a pair that were listed as "Used - Like New". They came with the original box and tags attached. It looked like someone maybe got them, tried one on and then returned them as one boot had the inner paper removed and was laced all the way, but the other one still had the paper intact.
I normally wear 6.5 or 7 depending on shoe. Most all 7s are a little long but many shoes are not available in 6.5. I ordered a 7 and it is a true 6.5. In fact I could have gotten an 7.5 and it would still work. But I have worn these and they are not too short to hurt my toes but there is zero extra room in length. They are comfy to work in. I like the ankle support and they are pretty cute.
I usually buy Merrell shoes but decided to try these Bearpaw's instead since they are about half the price. I will admit when I opened the box that I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the shoe. I got mine in the color Gray Fog and they looked nice. I had read a couple reviews of people saying to order a size up so I got size 8 instead of my usual 7.5. I am so glad I did. I probably should have gotten the 8.5 but the 8's are doable. The shoe is comfy. A bit tight on my pinky toe, which is why I probably should have gotten the 8.5, but I figure it will stretch a bit and be fine. The insole is nice and soft. The traction on these shoes are great.Overall, I'm happy with my purchase. Merrell's are still more comfortable in my opinion, but these Bearpaw's are a good substitution and half the price.
I love my new boots. They were unbelievably inexpensive, but are sturdy, support my ankles well, and are fashionable. I read the reviews prior to purchasing and ordered 1 full size up (since reviews said they run small). They fit great!!!!
Shoe material is sturdy, great design and would have been an excellent option for maybe cooler weather. We live in a tropical climate and I wore them on a 4 hour hike with lots of sharp, jagged rocks, some climbing and completely uneven ground. It was very warm, so right away noticed the sole started shredding on the rocks. Because the terrain was so uneven, the narrow toe box started crushing my big toes towards the end of the hike and the rigidity of the the material around the ankle started to bruise. I think it's a great option for shorter hikes on mostly even ground, and cold weather. It really does feel snug around the ankle and gives plenty of arch and ankle support. But cannot imagine wearing it again in hot Island weather.
Very slippery soles. No traction whatsoever on even slightly wet surfaces. Poor grip even on dry surfaces.Couldn't imagine daring to hike in these slippery bastards. We returned ours for a refund.NOT recommended.
Fit perfectly, very sturdy, very soft insoles. I would but this product again.
Fits like a childs boot . True bootie yes but much too short in the upper portion of the boot , lenght wise top of the foot. fits the bottom lenght of foot but not the top of your foot it is much too short . I have a big foot long foot 8 1/2 . sized up. Lenght on bottom of foot lenght is perfect only . I just did not know when thet say bootie they truely meant bootie as if it is more like a boy size boot. Not an adults . not so much USA big people. Nice looking boot though
