I'm on my feet all day in my role as keeper of home and family. I need comfortable shoes that I can walk in, inside and out, climb ladders in, wear when driving the youngest to/ from the train each day, etc. Used to be I'd wear runners (tennis shoes, joggers, whatever you call them) but they don't offer the sort of support and comfort I'm after. Crocs filled the bill nicely for a few years but they're just so ugly.So last year I bought a pair of Birkenstock Boston. They felt way too big and were actually painful because the leather was so hard it dug into the top of my (slim) foot with every step I took. I sent them to the op shop. Being a bit of an optimist, when I saw the Birkenstock Amsterdam, with wool felt top, at a local designer store, I decided to try Birkenstock again. As always, my first stop was Amazon, and, as is usually the case, I found what I was after and at a better price than anywhere else. These shoes arrived much faster than expected and I put them on as soon as they were delivered. They've hardly been off my feet in the days since. They're lightweight, all the weird bumps are in the right places, the wool felt is very comfortable against the skin, they look a lot better than Crocs, they can be worn with or without socks, they're roomy but not massive.... these shoes, for me, are 100% perfect,For comparison, I bought a size 37. I wear a US women's size 6.5 in Frye, Keen, Sam Edelman, etc, a Euro 37 in Swedish Hasbeens and Ara, and an English size 4 in Clarks Originals and Doc Martens. The 37 is perfect for my regular but more toward wide than narrow feet. Wide shoes are way too wide but some B widths can be a bit pinchy.Because they're so comfortable, I'm even learning to love the look of my new Birkenstocks.
I am so happy with my Amsterdam Clogs!! A long-time Birkenstock wearer, I was skeptical of the Amsterdam style because there is no way to adjust the uppers. I have small feet and usually buckle my Boston clogs on the second to last notch. Amazon had the Amsterdam at such a low price that I thought I would give them a go. I bought them a month a go in my size, 37R. I only wear Birkenstocks with the original foot bed, not the soft foot bed. Just like Boston clogs the Amsterdam was comfy out of the box for me, and there is less upper material so I don't miss the ability to tighten them. I do wear them with lightweight wool socks as I also wear Boston clogs. The uppers have conformed to my feet perfectly just like the foot bed. I bought the Cognac color and it is a very beautiful warm lighter brown. Amazon's pics are a good representation of the color. Great in a fall/winter wardrobe. The leather is very velvet-like and the grain in the leather is less noticeable the more I wear them. The leather looks very expensive, and I hope it wears well over time. I sprayed suede/nubuck protector on them and plan to care for them like a suede shoe.
There is a short break in period - but otherwise these are sturdy, comfy, and very supportive. They are easy to slip on and off. Easy to walk in without losing them , they have a ridge just behind the toes on the inside that you can grip with your toes. This is small and not at all uncomfortable. They have good arch supports , a must for someone with high arches.
These literally arrived straight from Germany! The box was completely mangled, but the shoes were great and the shipping was way ahead of what the seller said it would be. I couldn't believe how light they were! I thought there had been a mistake. They are so comfortable and actually make my big ass feet look somewhat small. They do run a tad small- I was hoping to be able to wear socks if needed, but it's a little too tight to do so. It takes about 2-3 wears before they are truly tolerable to wear all day, but after that they fit like a glove. I love the felt look and recommend Birkenstocks to anyone. I tried Danskos for work and now own 2 pair of Birks that were way more reasonably priced and so much more comfortable. Highly recommend!
I have pain in my metatarsal (forefoot) area; the older I get, the more padding I'm losing. A podiatrist recommended I always wear shoes with support, even at home. I used to wear slippers with some padding but that just doesn't cut it anymore & I think it led to damaging my feet. Birkenstocks were suggested & since I've owned a pair of the sandals for about 10 years (!), I decided to give them a try as my at-home shoes.I've been wearing them for about 6 months now, every day as soon as I get home. They have made a huge difference in how my feet feel. The metatarsal pain has not gone away completely but it is significantly diminished.I like this slip on/slip off version because it's more like a slipper. They are also pretty much non-marking although you can leave a light mark on a floor if you turn really fast. The mark is easily wiped off with just a damp cloth; no scrubbing. These shoes wear really well. I tend to be a "stomper" & a fast-walker but these shoes can handle it.I normally wear size 7.5 (US size). My feet are average width. The 38 M (EU) fits me perfectly. My toes can wiggle & I can wear thick socks if I choose. There is some break-in time with these shoes. The heat of your foot & your weight will form the cork to your feet. If you've ever tried on someone's Birkenstocks, you'll know what I mean. Some people have trouble with this & should wear them for a few hours at a time until broken in. I did not experience any pain with my break-in period. You can have these shoes resoled, the liners replaced, etc. at a good shoe repair shop. People love their Birki's & hate to throw them away.I bought 4 more pair of Birkenstocks since I bought these....I have 2 pair I only wear inside my house & 2 pair for running errands/casual wear. They are worth every penny they cost! Your feet are not replaceable so take care of them before they cause you pain.
