I was looking for a new pair of shoes, after one of my Clarks casual shoes (made in india) literally split in half. It only had 8 months of use! I was so angry, so much so that as a loyal Clark's customer I vowed to move on to another brand of shoe.So I began my search, and search, and search... I just couldn't find any pair of shoe that exited me as much as Clark's did. I began to reminisce on my first pair of Clark's that started it all. The Wallabees. The quality in craftsmanship, the nice thick leather, the stitching, and the indestructible weird looking jelly soles. These things could take a hit. I mean I wore them consistently for two years and they just wouldn't budge. I eventually needed something different, so I put them in the closet; only to come out when ever a pair of shoe wore out and I needed a something while I made another purchase. After about 2 years of that I realize I shouldn't be buying more shoes I should be wearing my wallabees. So I wore them for several more years until I finally decided its was time to part... What a mistake. Here I had a pair a shoes that lasted me almost a decade I parted away for no real good reason. It took me many more years of wearing other Clark's and other brands to come to this realization. The Wallabee's are the best shoes ever made!I broke my vow of not buying Clark's after that indian made piece of crap, and decided to buy these. To my surprise the wallabee's are no longer made in England or Ireland, but instead made in China!I was sceptical as to how great the quality may be. I mean I lost faith in Clark's after all. But after careful inspection, these shoe's look, smell, and feel just like the originals. The craftsmanship looks the same as well (a little more modern support). I did some research and turns out China has one of Clark's best shoe factory in the world.I can not judge these shoes by where is was made, but how they fare out with the old ones. So far I'm very very happy! I will wear these and put it to the test of time, and see if they will go for almost a decade as my originals did. At this point they once again take their place as my number one favorite pair of shoes.
Bottom line, these are fantastic shoes. I had Wallabees way back when I was in high school in the 70s, and this is my first pair since. I'm aware that they no longer made in England, but I don't see any issues with the quality. Not only do I love the comfort, I've gotten more comments on how great they are than any pair of shoes I've ever worn. They're also dead silent, so if you're a sneaky assassin, these would be good shoes for you.I also think it's important to make a comment about how they fit. There are a lot of reviews on Amazon that say to order a half size smaller than your shoe size. I did that, and was disappointed. I wear a size 11, when I ordered a second pair in size 11, I finally found the perfect shoe. I'd suggest ordering your correct size first and seeing how those feel.
I owned a pair of Wallabees 20 years ago which I wore almost daily for about five years and two resoles - loved them. The new "original" Wallabees are not exactly the same as my first pair, but they are still great shoes, comfortable and good looking (a matter of taste I suppose). The insole construction is not the same, probably not better or worse, but different. They are more comfortable and appear more durable than a recently purchased pair of Padmore Wallabees. A word about size: I wear a size 12C in most shoes and size 13N in New Balance/Dunham athletic shoes. The Wallabees are size 11.5M and fit perfectly - a tad wider than American B width. I suspect the Wallabees are sized by British standards. At Amazon prices, these shoes are well worth the money.
As someone who has worn Clark’s Wallabees as their every day shoe for nearly 8 years I wanted to share some input about their newer version. As anyone who has worn Clark’s for some years knows, they have had a dip in quality compared to 5-7 years ago. However, the Wallabee is still a superior chukka boot for the price. ~$150 for a crepe sole suede/leather chukka boot is a great price. One thing to note though, is that Clark’s has changed up the colors of their boots. If you once had the sand suede Wallabees, the new maple suede is a bit more yellowish but still goes quite nicely with nearly any outfit. Even with all the changes the comfort is still there and the stitching/gluing of the crepe sole is excellent. I would highly recommend investing in a $7 suede brush/eraser kit as this will come in handy for cleaning the supple suede. One other important thing to note is that you need to check which company is fulfilling your order. These shoes are not directly shipped and sold by Clark’s but by other vendors. If the vendor is a company such as Zappos, you need not worry as they are a trusted shoe retailer. However, I would be cautious ordering from other vendors without doing your research first.
Fit as expected
Surprise gift totally wonderful eye catcher
The fabric is very stretchy so you can just buy your size ,I love it can't wait to ware it
Have been wearing wallabees for decades, glad to see the quality has come back up on theseversions of the classic moccasin. These are called Clark's Original shoes, and the quality looksto be similar to the original Clark's made in UK (Ireland). Previously had Clark's made in Vietnam, which were fairly good, at least the sole lasted. Previous to that had the Clark's made in China, which were total garbage (the sole separated from the inner sole!). These latest Clark's come withthe Clark's tag and branding, and are soft and supple with fine stitching, just like they used to be.Note that the wallabee moccasins are quite flat shoes by design, so if you need a lot of arch supportthis is not your shoe. My feet I think are permanently wallabee shaped by now. Very comfortable, and quite silent when you walk so you can sneak up on people. :) Just wish they were cheaper.
