EDIT: Original review below for honesty's sake.I was wrong about these boots. Yes, the bootstraps were weak and there were some loose stitches. I have since worn them nearly daily for 12-16+ hours at a time, indoors and outdoors, on concrete, loose gravel, mud, tile floors, carpet, and countless other surfaces dry and slick. Combined with the insoles they're a force to be reckoned with. They have stood up to A LOT of abuse and are still going strong. While I've never had to wade through blood or bodily fluids wearing them I k now I can do so safely, and the steel toes have come in handy a couple of times now. The soles don't wear anywhere nearly as fast as I thought they would, and I am very happy with these boots. I got a great deal on them but after having worn them nearly daily for the past seven months I would like to amend my original review to say that YES, I would pay full retail price for these boots and feel good about it. I'd still like USA made, but these are damn good boots and I owed them a re-write.ORIGINAL REVIEW:I got a terrific deal on a pair of these from Amazon Warehouse. The price I paid was a mere fraction of the retail price and a good thing too, because the construction isn't all that great for a pair of boots bearing the Danner name. By and large I don't fault Danner for having a lower-end range of Asia-made items, but I'm not okay with selling them for the same price as the American-made boots whose outstanding quality Danner built their reputation on.After about 2 weeks of every other day use one of the bootstraps tore half off and after having a professional leatherworker take a look at it he said it was fairly cheap and thin leather, which is surprising for something that's supposed to take a good amount of force in pulling boots on every day. I've come across a number of loose stitches as well. Overall construction is acceptable but I'd be pretty unhappy if I paid full price for it.That said, they're extremely comfortable and supportive with some added SuperFeet insoles, they seem to be holding up alright to daily use and abuse, I can stand in them for 16+ hours without pain toward the end of the day, and if I found a second pair for the same steeply discounted price I'd buy them again. I would absolutely NOT buy them at the retail price - if you want Danner quality and a solid boot that'll take a re-tread and proper maintenance for decades of use, save your pennies and buy the Ft. Lewis boots - at least they're still made in the USA.
This is my second pair of Danners. I still have and wear my first pair, but I had to retire my swats. I like to wear a pair of boots every other day to let the other pair air out. Danner boots are far more comfortable than any boot I have worn. The price is a little higher than the boots you might find at your local sporting goods store, but it is worth it. The quality is very good. They leather does not give out and stop supporting your ankles. The leather does not scuff easily. I wear my boots 10 to 12 hours a day and my feet feel great. The support inside the shoe has still not worn out from my first pair and they are years old. The outside sole has not worn down either. Unfortunitely my uniform store does not carry Danners, so I must seek somewhere else and use my own funds. Thankfully Amazon has great prices and service!
Big fan of Danner, this is at least my second pair, if not 3rd. They definitely lived up to my expectations as far as comfort and construction.BUT... I have 2 kind big beefs. 1) The side zipper does not have any form of retention tab to keep the zipper up by the ankle. Several times a day I find that the boot gets loose and needs to be re-zipped. 2) My other danners are very form fitting, feel almost like a second skin but these have a very large, very defined toe box that has not shrunk down with age so after wearing them all day I find a few hotspots on my feet.Would I buy Danner again, heck yes. Would I buy these particular ones again, probably not.And having had front zip inserts on regular boots versus built in side zip, I'd opt for the front zip.As far as finish, these are incredibly well made, very durable, comfortable boots.
My first pair of Danner. So far, very comfortable. I was impressed by the number of people that had bought several pairs in the past. The loyalty to the brand was impressive. My only regret was not purchasing a 6" model. I don't know if they even offer that, but it would have been my preference. I'll keep everyone posted...
They are probably about 1/2 size too big but still fit okay. They are quality boots. I haven't had an issue with the zipper (yet) like some of the reviews I read prior to buying indicated. They are comfortable and easy to slip on and off. I like them.
Coming from a Danner APB (discontinued), that i have worn for about 4 years (similar to the Acadia), this boot fit much looser even though I ordered the same size. When trying on, my heel kept slipping. The overall construction of the boot was also a concern for me. When examining the boot, it appeared that the leather towards the front of the boot on the sides, was sloppily tucked in and sealant/adhesive just put over it to mask the lack of proper attention. The zippers at this point seemed ok, but had already "hung up" a bit, giving me the impression that they are cheaply made, especially due to the fact that the teeth on the zipper are so small. There need to be teeth that are not small plastic, nor the chunky plastic teeth Danner had used in the past. The folds of material next to the inner sides put a ton of pressure on the ankles and didn't feel good.Shipping these back and ordered a pair of Danner Acadia's. I personally love Danner boots and feel that they are of high quality, but some of these boots are just unacceptable especially for the money you put out.
