I waited until I saw my size available for under $200 to finally take the plunge and get my very first pair of FRYE boots. I was apprehensive based on other feedback, but boy am I glad I did it!The calf width issue was my biggest concern. Frye shows the extended calf has a width of 15.5" and I was afraid it'd be too tight. For reference, here is my experience with other boots: - I don't usually wear wide calf. My default is standard width. - Standard Hunter boots (15" circumference) are a tad too tight for me. - Sam Edelman standard boots are just right for me, except if I'm wearing heavy denim. They have a stretchy band that makes them more forgiving. Their wide calf is too wide. The calf width on these is perfect for me right out of the box. Not too snug, not too loose. Ideal with thinner denim, but would probably stretch to be ideal with thicker denim too.The foot is a little narrower than most shoes, so wide-footed ladies will want to pass. I am a size 10M in most shoes (9.5 in some brands or styles) and the 10 fit perfectly.Another criticism I have read about these particular boots is that, without the help of a zipper, they are hard to get off your foot. Personally, I have no issues whatsoever getting these on and off.I will say there is ZERO tread on the soles so they are SLICK at first (I kept slipping on carpet!). I've read some people get rubber soles applied to theirs, others scuff them before wearing. I will see if natural wear on the soles will improve the traction before taking them to the cobbler for more drastic action. In all, I was nervous to try them due to the cost, but was glad I did. The quality seems really good and I feel like they will last a long time. Color is true to the photo. So glad to finally have a pair of these!
The first time I bought the Melissa boot was used from a thrift store. 10 years later and they're still going strong other than needing to be resoled which is to be expected. I just received my new Melissa boots in brown today. They are stunning and every bit as well made as my old ones. Well worth the price considering how long they last.
Extremely disappointed with Frye. Their quality from years passed has significantly decreased-- not the same quality leather, it's thinner and not as nice. Owned boots from them for years and used to be great quality and lasted 10+ years but their newer boots are not worth the price. Received these boots all scratched and looks like they were previously worn or a floor model, not acceptable. Frye customer service is awful-- good luck trying to get a person on the phone. There's never someone to answer the phone and no one calls back when put on the call list. Terrible, you're on hold for HOURS with no call back. Also, exchanged for a different size and received Frye boots with ripped leather on the inside. If you want nice quality boots that will last you years, Frye is no longer that brand.
I finally put all my gift cards together to get these boots....unfortunately I think I will probably return them. I am a size 9 1/2, and self conscious about my big feet, and these boots don't work for me. They are beautiful, the right height, fit my calves perfectly, and are pretty comfortable, have a perfect low heel, but they look like big man boots on my feet. My only legit critique for these boots is that the back looks a little pinched on top- but that is shown in the pictures, and the structured sides around my heel felt pretty stiff, but already loosened as I wore them for a few minutes. The color is as pictured, but its more of a dark brown than cognac. If you have cute little feet you will love these, and the price is good. For reference I'm 5'6" , 135 lbs, average/narrow calves. These hit just below my knee perfectly, and don't make it hard to walk like most rain boots or stiff leather boots. They area little hard to get on and off with medium weight socks, and I couldn't get them on at all with my winter insulated socks. Fit true to size for me.
This is my 4th pair of Frye boots from amz warehouse. I have literally saved hundreds of $ on each pair! I got these pair for $60! There is not one single scuff or scratch anywhere on the boots, including the bottom! These boots are very classy looking and feeling! They fit like a glove! I bought the size 8, my normal size, and they are perfect!! They are superb quality leather, looks, smell and feel! Cant tell you how much I think they are beautiful!! Will look great with skinny jeans, dresses and skirts! I bought two pair of the more western looking boots, which are also perfect, and I would say these are a little more dressy than those. Those western boots are still super cute and will look great with skinny jeans or sun dresses. These are more classy for a day at the office or a fancy date. The western boots dont come up the calf as high, they are a typical normal cowboy boot height while these are def higher up the calf. I am 5"6 and they come to about 2-3 inches below my knee. Western ones are about 6 inches below my knee. I just cant wait to wear all of them out! People will think I spent a ton, when I actually didnt! I am hooked on amz warehouse! Also bought a Frye and Coach purse, and both came in absolutely perfect condition, and I saved hundreds! These are gorgeous!!! Only thing I dont like about all 3 pair of boots is the bottom is like walking on ice! There is no tread whatsoever! I bought some stick on treads from amz (5 pair for $9" and slapped them on and now they are perfect! Living in northern Wi I def needed to have some tread on the bottom! I think they would also be super slippery on a wet floor, or a tile floor without the treads on the bottom. Could not love my Frye boots more! Beautiful!! :)
These are a beautiful leather boot. A sleek simple style. I bought these up a size due to other reviews about difficulty getting their foot in the boot. Having received them and seeing the quality, I'm disappointed they will not work for me. The color was darker than expected but very nice. I know leather stretches but they are too expensive to take that chance.I typically wear an 8 to 8 1/2. I ordered a 9 and I cannot get my feet in them. I have a thicker calf, 16.5" or so, and as far as I can tell, these would have fit in circumference.
