The Johnston & Murphy Shuler Bicycle Toe Oxford is a good looking business / casual shoe. It's made of genuine soft leather that wears well. I can wear it on almost any occasion so you'll find me wearing it almost everyday. I've owned 2 pairs of these in 3 years. The 10.5 2E size is the perfect size for my wide feet. They're very comfortable walking, standing, and can take some light jogging. It took me under a week to break in my shoes and I didn't feel any pinching or discomfort during the process like I did with many other leather oxfords. My first pair didn't have any squeaky noise and I wore it until there was literally a hole at the bottom of the leather insole. I eventually tore out the foam adhesive lined insole and replaced it with a gel filled one just so I could continue to wear it casually around the house. The threading also frayed and broke apart near the toe area as the thread wasn't very durable. This was probably due to all the times I had to get down on the floor to run network and computer cabling for work. When I got my 2nd pair, it came with a squeak. I think it's due to a gap in the insole or if part of the insole isn't glued tightly all around. When you walk, air gets trapped in between any gap and is pressed out when you land your foot, causing the squeak noise. I haven't bothered to find a fix for this yet besides tip toeing when I want to be sneaky.Another possibility for the squeak is if you have loose shoelaces that push and pull as you walk, rubbing against the leather. You can try reducing any slack in your shoelaces and applying shoe cream or polish so there's less friction.Overall these shoes provide great value. When I took care of my 2nd pair, I got up to 2 years of use.If this is your first pair of leather shoes I highly recommend you familiarize yourself with shoe cleaning and polishing. Buy cedar shoe trees to keep the leather in good shape. Keep your shoes dry and away from water or direct sunlight. Furthermore, get a 2nd or 3rd pair of shoes and rotate them so each has time to recover.Note about customer service: I've called on several occasions and they are always very nice, responsive, and treat their customers very well. It's one of the reasons why I keep buying their shoes. I'm onto my 3rd pair now!
I was very disappointed with current Ecco shoes. I've been wearing Ecco shoes for more than 20 years. I think that they have changed for the worse. After ordering several pair of Ecco and returning them (due to size, fit and feel) , I came across these Johnston & Murphy shoes and thought I might as well try them. I ordered my size and WOW! Real leather, great insoles and felt like wearing slippers. Great comfort right out of the box. These days it is almost impossible to find a decent shoe. They just don't make them like they used to. Until I found Johnston & Murphy shoes. You will know as soon as you open the box that they are unlike any other shoes. The packing and prep are like no others. I just got these shoes tonight and they are still on my feet. They are that comfortable. Really impressed. Just try them, I'm sure you'll agree.
I ordered these to replace a pair I wore 15 years ago, and thought I'd give my comments for anyone shopping online for good dress shoes and aren't sure what to get.Through the past 15+ years I've owned several pairs of shoes for working in a corporate office environment. Several brands, styles. From Clarks to Doc Martens. But I always recall that these shoes were the best dress shoes I owned, although a bit heavier then others. The build is very good, the soles do not slip on wet pavement or metal grates. (Nothing worse then walking on a sidewalk and completely losing your footing like you're walking on ice). A lot of shoes these days use materials that are slippery on wet pavement. I'm happy to say these have not changed. The leather is very good leather, feels firm and thick, not thin pleather like so many other brands. IMO you want to order these on the small side. I range from 8.5-9 depending on brand, I had previously bought these in 9 over a decade ago and I remember they always felt *just* too loose. 8.5 fits me perfectly. The only 2 things about these shoes I can say "I wish were different" are that 1- They are heavier then many shoes, but then probably because of the material they use for the sole, which I am willing to compromise for so that I don't slip on wet surface, and 2 - Maybe this is because I was coming from doc mertens to these but the heel feels very wooden and not as cushiony. But I have noticed that after wearing these for a few weeks that particular feeling has lessened as I wear them in.
Appears to be quality product. Felt good on feet first time.
I am glad my husband finally feel comfortable with his shoes and nice looking as well. He has been wearing rockport for a while and now changed to this shoes. It works good. But a bit heavy weight
I have been looking for a shoe to replace my last pair of Cole Hahn Zinos for over a year. Yes, I am being very picky; I like what I like. I loved the design and fit of the Zinos. While these are a bit heavier, they are very comfortable and have the style appeal I was seeking.
Johnson Murphy has always been a top brand
