Best workbooks I ever had flat out!
I fly a paramotor (pictured) and we sometimes take off from unimproved fields, gravel lots, or when the conditions in the grass are quite wet. There is also a propeller spinning around a few thousand times per minute, and having some protection for your feet in case you get your toes in the wrong place is ideal! These Keen boots really are quite comfortable. BUT PLEASE NOTE, they put the HEAVY in HEAVY DUTY! (Size 14)I wear a Size 14, so already more material than most people. These boots together weigh in at 6 lbs (2.72 kg) or 3 lbs per foot!Obviously they are built to last, not built to run a marathon. But after dangling my feat in the air for 1.5 hours, these boots definitely started to put a bit of strain on my knees. No fault of the boot though!I wore these boots from about 5:30am until around 11am, driving an hour, then taking off, flying, landing, packing up, and going out to breakfast. These are BEAST BOOTS. Getting into and out of my car (sedan) was more of a challenge than I realized! I put my right foot behind the brake pedal I guess when getting in, but doing so with these boots trapped my foot behind the pedal! I had to open the door and move my foot to get in. Also, since the toe box on the Size 14 is SO wide, 5.25" (134mm), plus so reinforcing on the ankle, that I had some real trouble moving between the accelerator and brake pedals while driving! Again, not what these boots are designed for, but I want you to know.I cannot imagine these are not waterproof as described, but I will test them more and update my review if they somehow are not.LACINGThere are hooks AND eyelets from the ankle to the shin. You can keep them in the eyelets, or you can remove them and use the hooks instead. It makes them MUCH easier to take off and put on, though takes a bit of practice. The hook side has a little detent that the lace snaps into, increasing the likelihood that the lace will stay in there while in use.STYLEDurable. Look good! They do kinda look a bit comically large, but let's be honest, we're not going for a fashion runway here. We want to kick some tookus and take no names! They do look good though.COMFORTMMMMMM so comfy. I haven't done a 10 mile hike in them yet, but I've run through some fields, walked at least 2 miles offroad, and spent at least 10 hours with these suckers on. They really are comfy, and kept my feet comfortable, both with a 25mph wind flying, in the morning at 65ºF, and after I landed at 85ºF. I'm very much looking forward to using these to fly this winter in the colder months! And for getting to and from the car to the ski lodge. The 600g in the title is misleading. I thought the boots would be 1.32lbs each. Really there is 1.32lbs of "KEEN.WARM" insulation, and the other 1.68lbs is the boot itself! OK maybe the g isn't grams, but these boots are DESIGNED for SEVERE WINTERS, keeping your toes from getting frostbite in -55ºF temps.Yet they also kept my feet comfortable and not overheated in 65-85ºF temps too, surprisingly. So yay for KEEN.WARM and Luftcell, their air-infused midsoles.WEIGHTOK yeah the Size 14 Camden's weigh 3lbs per boot. The "600g" in the title is the amount of insulation in the boot, and I'm thinking it is 600 grams of insulation (1.32lbs) PER BOOT! These are definitely for SEVERE WINTER COLD WEATHER. I'll take the weight for the benefit of keeping my feet comfortable when the outdoors is against me.SUMMARYReally, I can finally get rid of my old steel toed hiking boots that I've had for years and upgrade with something that really seems to be built to last me the rest of my days on this earth. Impressive, KEEN, impressive.
These are some premium heavy duty work boots. Size wise, they fit how they should. They have really nice leather on them with a carbon fiber toe cap in lieu of steel to reduce the weight of the boot. If you are prone to ankle rolls, these go quite a ways up the shin and will prevent ankle rolls. Something I like because I have a hilly yard and tend to roll my ankles a bit.I thought these would possibly be good for some hiking since they are Keens. I included a picture of the tread. They are waterproof but these are some heavy boots and you probably wouldn't want to trek a lot in them. I wear a 15 medium and they weigh around 3 to 4 pounds per boot. Definitely the heaviest pair of boots I have ever worn. That said, They offer amazing protection and feel really good on your feet. These are built to last years and would make a great work boot for anyone.
These boots are a great find, they are comfortable and very durable. They are made well, and they are true to size. Made of quality materials.
At first glance, they looked like they would be way too big. However, when I tried them on, they fit perfectly. They ride high up your ankles giving you that extra protection that you need at work.I like how they lace up. You can use eye holes to hold the laces, but there is also clips that you can just wrap the laces around them. That makes it much easier to put on and take off since I don't have to keep going through the eye holes. The design is nice. They do have to get broken in, but that is common among boots like this. They are comfortable enough once broken in. I like them a lot.
I really wanted to love these boots. I ordered wides, they still felt very narrow. On top of that, the left boot has a ridge from the insulation that goes down to the bottom of the boot where your feet are, I felt that ridge just enough to feel discomfort. I wore them for almost two weeks and all that ridge did was make my foot feel worse and worse. I had no choice but to return them. The right boot didn't have this issue so I'm not sure if maybe I got a defective pair?
They are relatively heavy but thats to be expected. However overall comfort isnt the greatest. After 10 hours of working you cant wait to take them off. Surprisingly they will take on water roughly halfway up. Perhaps its just my pair. Where the tongue meets the boot is irritating as well on your feet. Overall just not impressed with them , specially for the money.
These Keen 8 inch, 600g carbon toe boots are made well. They are waterproof and exude quality. I love that the upper eyes have a choice between quick lacing via hooks or static lacing with integrated eyelets in the metal studs. The fit is great, though I am happy I got the wider width. I am a 12 in most shoes and boots, but the wide width is welcomed in these, especially with thick socks during colder months. They are heavy, so that's a consideration when walking or hunting with these on. Probably overkill for my hunting needs, but they are a very nice product. My only complaint/suggestion would be to add a loop on the back to pull up on, while pushing your feet in. Whether overhanging the top, or more on the ankle, boots this tall need a reinforced pull tab for a quick and easy donning. Despite this, these are great boots and highly recommended.
