Before I get into my review, I'm just going to put this out there: To anyone who currently wears Orthaheels (particularly the Wave style), ditch those puppies & get a pair of these! Those raised circles they put on their foot beds appear to have no actual beneficial purpose- all they did for me was to rub painful calluses on the ends of my toes (I know, right-?) and other areas on bottoms of feet. And yet, they had the best arch support I could find in a flip flop- at that time, anyway. And then I saw a blurb for these in my local newspaper, searched Amazon, found them, ordered, and- SOOO glad I did!!! When these arrived, I opened the box/bag (minimal odor that dissipated in just a few minutes), took off the Orthaheel Waves I was wearing, and put these on: it was literally like stepping from concrete onto the cushiest thing you could ever find! No way ANY of the Orthaheels I own (including the dressier sandals with leather foot beds) were ever this comfortable - and definitely not this inexpensive! (sorry Orthaheel- maybe nix those raised foot bed circles & lower your prices, yeah?) I received these on May 29, & they've been on my feet all day every day since. The Oofos have superior arch support that extends under the metatarsal area- a part sorely in need of arch support and yet usually overlooked by flip flop/sandal designers (ok, at least the ones I'm familiar with...). That alone makes them worth getting. And, if you've already been wearing Orthaheels every day, you should pretty much be able to just put these on & go with minimal getting used to. Tho if that metatarsal arch is something new for you, maybe break into them gradually if you need to. Your feet will guide you Something to keep in mind: Because the deep heel augments the arch, if your feet tend to supinate (roll out), you might find yourself more easily walking on the "outside" edge of these, thus wearing down the outside heel faster. I don't have a problem with pronation, & I find that if I'm not walking purposefully with my foot landing centered over the heel, my feet will want to roll outward. Just needs some mindfulness -well, for me anyway. I rated the width as "somewhat narrow" only because the fit is a bit tight across the top of my foot where the foot strap meets the toe bit across the top of my feet. Because these are made as a unit, ( just like they look in the photos) with the strap & toe bit actually molded in as part of the shoe, there isn't as much give in that area as there tends to be with most flip flops where the toe & strap are separate entities attached to the foot bed/sole (classic flip flop design). From my observation, it's these strap/toe attachments that provide the most give in a flip flop, which means they also tend to be the causal points for over-stretching & making the fit too loose & extra-floppy. The material these are made from has a somewhat sticky quality to it in the sense that they seem to want to adhere to the feet, which seems to me to be another factor in the tightness of the fit at the toe bit strap: they "stick" to the tops of my feet- which is great as far as keeping them from trying to fall off as I walk, but not so great when I've been sitting a bit & my feet swell a little. That in particular is when they fit too tightly. After wearing these all day every day for the past wks, I haven't noticed a substantial amount of stretching happening in that area just from walking. What I did notice tho is that driving seems to cause some stretching at the sides where the cross straps meet the foot bed, which does seem to affect the way they fit. How did I arrive at this conclusion? Because I drive an automatic, so I use only my right foot to drive- and it's the right Oofo that has loosened & not the left. After driving with my Oofos on a couple of times & feeling the right one getting too loose, I started wearing a sock on that foot when I drive. No further loosening of that shoe has occurred. (My observation: driving is a significant cause of excessive stretching in most flip flops- especially if you drive a clutch: wear driving mocs or socks when driving, see for yourself). Another reviewer mentioned theirs had stretched out too much & now fit too loosely. Maybe this is the cause-? This sticky texture also seems to make them dirt magnets. My (light-colored) kitchen floor is a testament to this- seems it's always so much dirtier lately, what with me going outside & back in, running water, walking on damp floor. The reviewer who thought the color was running on theirs: I got the mocha, & sure enough, when I'm wiping the dirt off of them, it's almost the same color as the shoes & does indeed seem to be the shoe color washing off. I wash mine in the sink every night so they'll be clean the next day. This issue is not deterring me from wearing these, or from buying more in the future. One more subject to address here is physics- as in, laws of. Doesn't matter how much any manufacturer says their shoe material is such that it does not compress over time- the more weight that those shoes have to carry around, the more (and faster) they will compress down (test subjects most likely being of "average" weight). Definitely affects the length of life one can expect from ANY shoes (I have found this out after having gained 50 pounds over the past 15 yrs- shoes just don't fit or last the same as when I weighed 120...) I will be better able to assess the degree of sole compression in my current Oofos after I buy a new 2nd pair in the near future. Oh yeah- almost forgot.. If you have painful calluses from other shoes, I recommend removing or filing them down BEFORE wearing these- or any new shoes for that matter. The painful calluses I got from those Orthaheels initially stopped hurting as long as I was wearing my Oofos, but would then hurt even more when I wasn't wearing them. Got so bad I broke down & ordered some of those Dr. Scholl's callus remover pads (stay tuned for my review of those...;-). Anyways... once the callus situation was fixed (took a couple of wks), my comfort level increased significantly! Now I have no foot pain when not wearing Oofos as well as having no pain when wearing them. Works for me! Happy travels!
The oofoo thong type sandals are truly amazing. From the first few minutes I had them on, my feet felt like they were on a foot vacation. Dumb I know, but the support, the fit, the entire sandal felt wonderful on my feet. I have previously purchased Vionics, Crocs, Reefs, and Addidas and the Oofoos were, for me, so much more comfortable and therapeutic for my feet. One thing that may helped is my feet are very narrow and many of the other brands are made for much wider feet. Do yourself a favor, give Oofoos a try, it can make your back and legs feel better as well as your feet.,,
I just had hip replacement surgery 3 weeks ago. Still not at the point where I can bend over to put my own socks & shoes on so I went on a search for good sandals. So far, these are very comfortable and are providing support to the point where I feel I can walk without a cane. I think these are going to aid in a more speedy recovery. The fit is great, they have a nice wide toe area. My feet are medium width and the fit is perfect.
Was having real issues with PFThese offer cushion and support where I need it.The type of cushion and support and the results helped me figure out which inserts work best in my shoes( luckily the $16 not the $60 ! )I bought 1st pair full price.2nd pair was on sale.Well worth it*** 1 caveat, it seems to be manufacturing, some have better straps than others- 1 pair a strap was loose so my heel would fall off the sandal, returned and got a better pair. OOFOS customer service is exceptionally responsive.
They are like walking on clouds. No other flip flop comparison to the comfort, support and pain relief that I have tried. Very simple and light weight flip flop but I am on my second pair because they stretch out over time. My last pair only last 2 years before it broke but I wear them every day. Now I have 2 pair 1 for inside and 1 for outside and they seem to be holding up better. I would expect for the price they would last longer than 2 years.
These shoes are amazingly comfortable & great arch support.
I am a heavy lady with foot regular pain and these sandals are my absolute favorite! They make every step not hurt and feel great. I have three pairs and I wear them in and out of the house. I would wear them every day if I could. But sandals aren’t great in snow. Lol
