I bought these to have a nice looking boot for wearing with jeans for going into the office. They fit perfectly and look nice. Still have not gotten them wet so not sure about the material and Water resistance yet but they are well-made and should last longer than some I have purchased in the past.
Full disclosure, I'm a huge Rockport fan. I've bought their shoes and boots for years because they've always fit me well and they make a really comfortable shoe at a decent price that has always held up pretty well for me.To begin, I bought the "Tan" color and these are anything but tan. These are a dark chocolate brown in a flat finish nubuck leather with a brown / grey synthetic sole. But they look exactly like the photo in the product listing and that's what I wanted so I don't really care what Rockport calls the color. These are also made with Rockport's proprietary "Hydro Shield" design which makes them waterproof and that was important to me because I live in New England. Fall is wet and winters come with snow, slush, ice, and salt. So having a reasonably fashionable Chukka boot that can handle the weather is just practical. I've owned another pair of Rockport Hydro Shield Chukka boots for about three years and they have worked fine for me.Are these a high end fashion boot with stitched leather soles? No! But they look pretty good and the lugged rubber soles will do better in mud and slush than a flat leather sole. Also the waterproof uppers will survive a lot better than dress shoe leather while being much easier to keep looking good. And finally, these are 1/3 to 1/4 the price of a delicate high end fashion boot. That made the decision a lot easier. Also, the Rockport partnership with Adidas has produced a dress boot with near running shoe comfort. These are incredibly comfortable right out of the box. I wear a size 11 D (medium) width. That's what I ordered and they fit me perfectly. A fashion boot is not going to have this level of comfort. Also it's really hard to find a nice looking men's ankle height boot that doesn't have a zipper on the side. I guess I'm old fashioned but those seem like fake boots to me and something a poseur would wear. I want a men's boot styled like a men's boot right down to a functional lacing system not some zipper closure destined to fail or leak water.I bought these boots to go with a new dark brown distressed leather jacket and leather flat cap for fall and winter and I couldn't be happier with my choice. Rockport wins again.
I've had these for about four months, and for a fashion boot (NOT work or hiking), I'm impressed. They seem to be water resistant or, at least, good enough for waiting at bus stops during a rainy Seattle winter. Although I walk up/down steep hills on concrete, I have not seen any cracks or even wear. The leather has darkened from the rain, but I like that look. I wear them 3-4 days/week, 4-8 hrs/day.The insole didn't offer enough support for me, so I ended up buying a $15 insole. So, if you have a pronounced arch, just know that you might need to augment the support. With the insole, they're fairly comfortable.Size: I wear a 12.5 which they don't offer. I surmised from many other reviews, however, that they run large. I ordered a 12 w which fits well while wearing a thicker sock. (If I was trying these on in a store, I would have even tried on an 11.5). I would estimate that these run half-size to full-size large. The laces are somewhat thin and cheap. I'll upgrade at some point.Amazon had these on sale in December so I got a good deal on them. Even at full price, I think they compare favorably to most fashion boots in this price range and offer better materials and workmanship then many I looked at.
These boots are incredibly comfortable. The break in period only took about 2 days, but they were still comfortable the first day I tried them on. I've had other boots including DrMartens and I prefer these Rockports. With that being said, some could worry that such a comfortable boot may not last. I can't speak to their longevity as I've only had them for 4 months, but so far, I haven't experienced any premature wear on these. I do worry about the soles wearing down too quickly based on other reviews. I don't wear these everyday, but at least twice a week, including walking on a hard concrete floor all day at my job. I've taken these boots on hikes, worked in a woodshop, and trekked through the snow. I'm very pleased with these boots and sincerely hope they last. I am expecting to get at least 3 years out of these considering the $109 price tag.A few notable features I like about this boot.1. They are incredibly lightweight.2. (Removable) Cushioned soles provide better support and comfort than most other boots I've tried.3. The padded ankle opening/ tongue. Both the ankle and tongue have a little bit of padding. Not too much, but enough to avoid flimsy support around the ankle/ front of shin.4. Waterproofing. Unless water goes above the opening of the shoe, your feet are going to stay dry. The tongue has waterproof material attaching it to the boot so there is no entry for water.5. Style. These boots are sharp, classy, but also rugged. I've had many compliments on them and they go well with my Levi's. They seem to be aging well, only looking better with a few scuffs here and there that add to their character. As far as sizing, I normally wear 11.5 in Vans, usually a 12 in Nike, so I purchased a size 11 in these boots and they fit perfectly.
Bought as bday gift......and it hit the mark. He said they are lightweight and feel so comfortable. Definitely worth the price.
I’ve had Rockports for years. Great shoes all around. Comfortable and durable. For some reason both shoelaces broke on these boots. The right one broke about 4 weeks in and the left about 3 weeks after the first. I don’t remember ever breaking a shoelace on any shoe before. I’ve had the boots for several months now and I noticed water will seep through. I think these were some “new”, old, improperly stored boots that went bad.
Look like very nice quality
