The Outback rubber outsole provides long-lasting traction and stability on rugged terrain. It is stitched on for flexibility and has been double stitched at toe and heel for durability.

New Rockys for winter in Texas where there is more rain than snow. Warm and comfy with good looks and good soles. Stitching looks good so far and they are all I remember Rockys being.
Their comfortable, their water proofing is excellent (Gortex) and they have excellent traction in the snow. Well worth the price.
Construction, overall quality looks good. They are nice looking, comfortable boots, with a soft, grippy rubber sole. They feel correct in length for a 13 but the wide is not very wide. To be exact it is wide enough everywhere but the big toe area. Let's be honest though, that's almost all shoes. Until the majority of the population desires function more than form, we will have shoes that aren't shaped like feet. So in keeping with that Rocky has done an atleast average job of making a wide size. I would not stop from buying unless you have a crazy wide foot and if you do, you're already paying no attention to single or double wides. I purchased for hiking, outdoor use. I am not an extreme athelete so I gave up on Asolo and find a good classic upland style boot more comfortable. No, I would not use these across a scree or steep, harsh terrain. Now a daypack and 5 miles of upland trail, yes. They are good looking enough to wear as casual shoes and would be a good choice if running to ShopRite to buy firewood is as outdoorsy as you get, that way you can wear them casually and not feel like you only get a few days use. Which might be the case with a hardcore boot.
One of best boots I bought looks and comfortable.
Love these. Got them for hiking, but they’re nice to wear out and about too. They’re very comfortable right out of the box. No painful break in for me. Taking them tomorrow for a 8mile hike.
As others have noted, these are somewhat undersized and narrow in the toe box area. I wore a 10D 10 years ago, but find that I wear an 11E now. That could be my feet spreading out, but I'm guessing it's due to a gradual downsizing of shoes in general. Not sure how that makes sense for any shoe/boot manufacturer, but I've found this to be the case in Merrill, Rocky and New Balance purchases in the last few years.Since I already knew they would run a little bit small, I bought the 11E that seems to be right now days. They fit well, although just a little tight in the toe box, which will probably stretch out nicely in time. I really like the way they wrap around the ankles, proving support there. They are fairly flexible, lightweight, and seem well constructed (only had them one month, so time will tell). The footbed insert is top notch ... very thick and cushy. The only thing I would change is using a smoother leather. The leather has a little by of a suede nap, which collects dust and dirt more that the Rocky's I bought about 20 years ago that had a smooth, dense oiled leather upper that was excellent. All in all, very happy with these boots.
As many have noted, this boot is a bit small so make sure to order 1/2 size up. Other than that, it is taking a while to break in and can wear my feet out but in my experience it usually means they last much longer and usually end up being my favorite boot. I am curious to see how they hold up to a northern winter but from my short experience with them have no doubt the sole will work wonders on the ice and the gore-tex manages to keep my feet from sweating in the summer and will no doubt impress once it hits minus 40 degrees this winter. They lose the fifth star due to the small fit but I will gladly buy another pair.8/22/2016 - 1 year update. They took a good 6 months to break in but they were super warm all winter long (even at -20F) and my feet didn't sweat at all outside when it hit 100 degrees and 90% humidity. The soles are still in near perfect condition after a year and not even one seam has started to unravel. I cant remember even one time where the waterproofing allowed my feet to get wet and I am like a big kid with water puddles. Due to their great performance and super durability they get their 5th star back I took for the smaller fit. Can you say goodbye Rockport? Rocky is my new favorite shoe!
Did more research on Hunting boots than a man should ever do but i stumbled across these and they fit all the criteria I was looking for. Straight out the box instant comfort no break in period needed. I used these for 2 weeks straight dry camping walking about 20 miles a day in the California High desert. The weather on normally was a high of 75° with a low of 20° and these boots kept me warm when it was 20° and didn’t sweat me feet off when it was 75°. It snowed on us lightly for a day boots held up. The waterproof abilities actaully surprised me even sprayed my foot off with a hose and didn’t even feel a drop inside. The leather didn’t hold its color it became very light but wow did the leather hold up to walking through sage brush and that was impressive enough to have 2 dudes I was hunting with buy their own pair.
