About Outdoor Shoes

Gear Up for Adventure: The Ultimate Guide to Outdoor Shoes

The call of the wild is strong, and whether you're an experienced hiker or a weekend explorer, having the right footwear is essential for any outdoor adventure. Outdoor shoes provide the traction, support, and protection you need to conquer trails, navigate uneven terrain, and embrace the great outdoors with confidence. This ultimate guide to outdoor shoes will equip you with the knowledge to choose the perfect pair for your next trek.

Know the Terrain: Choosing the Right Outdoor Shoe for the Adventure

The key to selecting the perfect outdoor shoe lies in understanding the terrain you'll be tackling. Here's a breakdown of some popular outdoor shoe types and their ideal environments:

  • Hiking Boots: For moderate to challenging hikes, hiking boots offer superior ankle support, stability, and traction. They're ideal for uneven trails, loose rocks, and backpacking trips.
  • Trail Running Shoes: If you prioritize speed and agility on well-maintained trails, opt for trail running shoes. These shoes offer good traction and a lightweight feel compared to hiking boots.
  • Approach Shoes: These versatile shoes combine the climbing performance of climbing shoes with the comfort and durability of hiking shoes. They're perfect for technical hikes or approaches to climbing routes.
  • Water Shoes: For adventures near water, water shoes provide excellent grip on wet surfaces and protect your feet from rocks and debris.

Considering the Features: Your Outdoor Shoe Checklist

Once you've identified the type of outdoor shoe you need, consider these key features for optimal performance and comfort:

  • Waterproofing: Especially for hikes with potential rain or wet crossings, a waterproof membrane keeps your feet dry and comfortable.
  • Traction: Good lug patterns on the soles are essential for providing grip on various terrains, especially loose gravel or muddy trails.
  • Ankle Support: For hikes with uneven terrain or heavy loads, consider boots with higher ankle support for stability and protection.
  • Breathability: Especially for warmer weather adventures, breathable materials like mesh uppers allow for ventilation and prevent your feet from overheating.

Fit for Adventure: Don't Compromise on Comfort

Comfort is paramount when choosing outdoor shoes. Here are some tips for ensuring a proper fit:

  • Try on shoes in the afternoon: Your feet can swell slightly throughout the day, so an afternoon fitting is ideal.
  • Wear the socks you plan to hike in: This ensures a snug fit that prevents blisters and discomfort.
  • Leave some wiggle room: Your toes should have some space to move freely without feeling cramped.
  • Walk around in the shoes: Make sure they feel comfortable and supportive during movement, especially on inclines and declines.

Embrace the Journey: Step into Adventure with the Perfect Outdoor Shoes

With the right outdoor shoes on your feet, you'll be ready to explore new trails, conquer challenging hikes, and embrace the beauty of the outdoors with confidence. Remember, prioritize features that match your planned activities, ensure a comfortable fit, and don't hesitate to seek expert advice at a reputable outdoor store. So lace up your new outdoor shoes, gear up for adventure, and start exploring the world one step at a time!

Good climbing shoe

I had to buy these three times to get the right fit. I normally wear a 6.5 to 7. So I bought a 7 in these and could not get my feet in them. So I tried a 8.5, and they were too painful. I then bought a 9 and they fit perfectly. They were still tight, like they should be, but not to the point where I was in pain. I know they are supposed to be tight, like a second skin I also know they would stretch about 1/3rd a size after good use. I have had these for over a month now and use them 3 to 4 times a week. They work very well. Very pleased. Just be prepared to make a few returns before you find the right size. Runs extremely small.

Too Narrow for human feet 🦶

I was so stoked to be getting new climbing shoes. I wear a size 6 street and hiking shoe. Typically, you buy a slightly smaller climbing shoe but I read the reviews so I bought my street shoe size. The length of the shoe was fine but the shoe was so narrow, I couldn’t even get the shoe on my foot and I don’t have wide feet.To be honest, these are not going to work for anybody unless they have incredibly NARROW feet. Like these shoes are NOT made for normal human feet.Picture next to the profile of my bf’s foot to show how narrow the shoe is. It’s about half as wide as a normal foot. Sending them back today.

Strange feedback on sizing

I've ordered these shoes 5 times just from this vendor, and I've been wearing them for at least last 10 years. My street shoe size is 5, and I order size 5 of this shoe. I ordered 5.5 once for my daughter and for me they were too big. So I am very confused about all the feedback here from people saying that shoe run small. They don't. Climbing shoes are supposed to fit very tight and some might not fit your foot. I can't wear Scarpa shoes at all. But that does not mean they are small, they just don't fit you. These will stretch a lot two after ~14 hours of climbing. But these are not beginners shoes, they are great edging shoe. So buy your size if you know what I am talking about

Great mid level shoe, runs a bit tight.

I'm giving this product 4 stars because it performs exactly as I hoped it would, but the fit is a bit tight and I still have to take them off between routes. I hoped the less aggressive camber of the shoe would mean that I could leave them on more often than I take them off.Pros:1.) Love the velcro2.) Pointy toe meant I can balance on tiny holds3.) sticky rubber sole keeps me on the wallCons:1.) Small, even for a climbing shoe

Great for beginners — make sure to size up

I LOVE these climbing shoes. I am a beginner and they’ve been a perfect, low cost shoe as I’m starting out. They are really small (I wear an 8 normally and had to size up a full size). My friends told me they should be tight, but not hurt. Once I sized up, they were still a bit tight but have loosened comfortably within the first few weeks. definitely recommend for beginners like me!

Great for Sport Climbing

I wear a street size 9 and got a size 9.5 with these. I have average size feet in width I would think. When I tried them on at home, I felt like they were going to be too tight, but I was going on a day trip the following day so I waited to decide. Wearing them outside made all the difference. I was able to stick into tiny holds with confidence and did not notice any discomfort on the wall. Back on the ground, I did have to take them off between climbs, but that was well worth it!

Not Impressed with Quality

The shoes didn't fit and I chose not to return/buy another pair because the quality was not great. I could see the glue where the rubber was attached to the heel of the shoe.

Size up at least two sizes

I am a size 8 regular shoe. I ordered a size 9 because I read that you needed to size up, but I found that I needed to size up at least one to two more. Climbing shoes are supposed to be tight, but my toes were bunched up and I couldn’t Velcro closed.
