The monk strap shoe was originally designed to be a dressier and more durable alternative to the sandals worn by monks across europe. essentially a work shop, the first monk straps were made of durable leathers and featured a cap toe to provide additional protection. that is the origin of the style but they’ve come a long way since then. with the st. john’s we have created a double monk strap with the classic cap toe to which we have added exquisite perfing and pinking along the toe and waist that lend it an air of contemporary cool. riding the line between the balmoral and blucher in formality, the first double monk strap in our refined dress collection is versatile enough to wear with a suit, jeans and everything in between.

Great shoes, these are really nice, I do not recommend the lower-end Allen Edmonds but any of the leather soles - $400 and up shoes are worth it.
Shoes are perfect, fit the way they should.
Nice well made shoes but they seem to run large.
I ordered a Allen Edmonds St. Johns, Chili, size 8.5. I receive an Allan Edmonds' box and travel bags for each shoes BUT the shoes are UV SIGNATURE brand!! and size 9!! A TOTAL SCAM. Not Recommended, Its better to buy it in the original website.
Great shoes.. I didn't have the problem with the Squeaking the guy said from the last review.. You should try to get with customers service from Allen emdonds there really great company .. I have gotten a lot of compliments from the lady's 😉
several defects
I bought these in a 10.5 E, which has always been a perfect fit for me with AE. I could barely get my foot in these. Be warned that these have a much more "modern" toe box that is extremely narrow.Mine lacked any major defects or issues, but it's still evident that Allen Edmonds quality is nowhere near where it was in yesteryear. Everything is just a bit sloppier now. They simply lack the attention to detail one would expect with $400 shoes.
