After doing research on various companies I decided to buy from AE. I value Made in the USA construction and quality footwear. The pair I received fit like a glove, required very little break in time and are in my regular rotation. The leather is full grain, very high quality and attractive to look at. Per AE's recommendations I have only used leather lotion on the surface and no polish to speak of. The finish is so nice there is no need to polish these. The burnished finish is quite fantasticWalking all day in San Fran up and down the streets would have left me exhausted in other shoes; these deliver what's important: comfort and support. The soles are natural rubber and have plenty of grip. The leather lined interior is quite comfortable along with the leather covered insole. My only gripe is the heels are not the same size. The two are about 1/4" different measured along the length of the shoe. Everything else lines up nicely and the heel discrepancy doesn't diminish the functionality and most people will probably never notice.
I bought this shoe for a two week trip to the Balkans. I like to travel light and was determined to make the trip with just a carryon. Shoes are critical to traveling light and I needed one pair of shoes that I could do a lot of walking in, sometime on dirt paths, and still have a shoe that look good enough for some fancy restaurants such Gundels in Budapest. These shoes met my needs in theory and practice. They were very comfortable and required no breaking in. They have enough grip on the sole to handle wet cobblestones and some steep, wet trails. They look great for a smart casual or business casual style. The size was consistent with what I experienced with other Allen Edmonds shoes. I must note that I am an Allen Edmonds fan and own several pairs of their shoes. I still wear a pair that is over 25 years old. They make great shoes and this shoe did not disappoint. The only downside are the shoe laces they came with. They don't stay tied. I immediately replaced them with thicker shoe laces and had no problems.
I love Allen Edmonds shoes. I have worn many brands in the past but nothing fits or feels as comfortable as Allen Edmonds. This is the second pair of Allen Edmonds shoes I have bought from Amazon and, I must admit, I do troll the Amazon site looking for good deals on this make of shoes. I bought these at about a 30% discount and am quite pleased with them. They do appear to be a discontinued color but, that's OK since I like the color, They are very comfortable and, while not very stylish, are reminiscent of a classic work shoe. I can wear them all day and be very comfortable every minute. It's not exactly a barefoot feel. You know you have a pair of shoes on but you really don't mind. They are, after all, part of Allen Edmonds' comfort line.
Almost all my shoes are Allen Edmonds. The sizing is generally predictable, esp once you know which last works best for your feet. This shoe, however, is too narrow. It is the only 9D by AE that hasn't worked for me. I love the concept of the shoe--a durable, comfortable model for all-day walking and standing. The design and construction offers all that, but unfortunately, they are let down by being too narrow.
Bought this shoe from Amazon.. my 3rd pair of Allen Edmonds. This is the most comfortable so far. I have a pair of Strands and Firenze. This is the best for work as I'm on my feet all day. It is so well made, you can tell right when you pick them up. I must admit they look a lot better in person than the pictures. My wife likes them too. Highly recommended.
These shoes proved to be longer in size than I anticipated and I had to send them back. As noted elsewhere Amazon charges you for returning shoes which seems a littleunfair. Given that it often takes trying on two or three shoes at a shoe store to get the right fit Amazon may wish to adjust there policy.Nevertheless, the price is so good on AE shoes that it is worth the risk. The Wilbert is a sturdy shoe but not really a comfort shoe and has a hard feel to them. I own several pair of AE shoes and like them all.I remain a fan of AE shoes but a little less of a Amazon fan.
HUGE waste of time- tried 3 pairs, the first 2 didn't fit and the 3rd was irregular beyond belief. Hard to understand how the person making this shoe didn't realize it was defective. This is a $300 shoe???
My favorite shoe. Heavier and more substantial than their dress shoes, it has the same superior fit and finish their shoes are known for (which most of the imports lack.) Another A-E feature is the much greater variety of shoe widths--so if you are not "normal" and need anything from width A to width EEE you can get it. They also have the nicest shoe inserts--which are readily available so you don't have to use those ill-fitting generic aftermarket insoles when your original ones wear out.
