I'm not a runner, but I want a comfortable shoe and Asics have always been that shoe for me. The past couple of years though, it's been clear that Asics has been changing some things and I've been having trouble finding the right fit. I tried the Nimbus because I knew I was going out of town to Disney with the fam and I was going to put some serious mileage on my feet. I needed a shoe that would deliver - and did they ever. When I first put them on, I was disappointed in the stiffness of the shoe, but after a day or two of wearing, the broke in nicely. When my family was in Disney, we put in about 25k steps a day. At the end of each day, my family would gripe about their feet and would be nursing blisters. For me, I realized I had never even thought about my feet. The shoes were so comfortable and supportive - even in all of those steps, my feet felt fine. No pain, no blisters, no worries. These shoes are phenomenal. After 6 days of brutal walking, the shoes are still great and I'm wearing them to work each day. I'll be getting more Nimbus shoes in the future. Thanks Asics!
As a former runner and track coach I tried many shoes to find the ones that worked for me from a fit and comfort and injury prevention standpoint - I tried Nike, Adidas, Brooks, New Balance, and then stumbled upon the Asics Gel Nimbus 12. I have not owned every pair since, as the line of shoes is high enough quality you are hard pressed to wear them out in less than 2-3 years of constant use - I owned the 12s, 15s, 16s, 19, and now these, the Gel Nimbus 22s, and they continue to impress, getting better with each iteration. It has all the support and comfort of the big fluffy, pillowy early Gel Nimbus shoes and similar, but without the big garish pillows of foam that were so common place, giving it a lighter feel and a noticeable improvement in how elastic/bouncy it seems. He heel lock provides the tight feel I like without the issue many other companies/shoes have where it actually digs into your heel to the point of drawing blood - this one is firm yet comfortable and supportive. If you are looking for a shoe that will be kind to someone with a previous injury history, and/or are aiming for a solid training shoe for the 30-60 mile per week + cross/weight training, I would be hard pressed to imagine anything better. I cannot recommend this shoe, and the entire Gel Nimbus line from Asics, highly enough
Why do I like this shoe so much? This shoe has enabled me to walk further and at a faster pace without getting sore feet as had happened with a couple of other major brands. I have some hilly sidewalks in my neighborhood and I usually walk fast, about 3 miles a day. The padding is thick enough to adequately cushion while not so thick that it interferes with feeling enough of the surface you are walking on. I credit the Nimbus with helping me stick to a 3 year regimen because my feet don't hurt anymore when I exercise. I wear a 9 1/2W dress shoe but need a size 10W in this shoe. Asics makes this shoe in an extra-wide (EEEE) in some styles, however the EE wide fits my wide forefoot and moderately high instep without being too wide on my more regular sized heel. My wife takes a 7 1/2N in other brands but needs an 8N in the Nimbus. We both started with the model 16 and own several of their other models through the 22. I preferred a thinner sole shoe when I was younger and thinner but these are more compatible with our 60's lifestyle now. My wife is thin and petite and I'm slightly overweight yet the Nimbus works great for both of us. These shoes aren't cheap but they last a long time and feel so good on my feet. I hope that they maintain high quality material standards and consistent sizing so that my wife and I can continue to enjoy them and have confidence in the Gel-Nimbus when it's time to replace. Asics, please don't mess with the toe-box. We both agree, the 16s and 22s were the best of the models we have owned. Just our personal opinion. Others were really good, but those were remarkable. Kudos! Continual process and product improvement enables loyal customers so please don't ever take the cheap route as some companies have. If you like Brooks or Solomon shoes but put on a few pounds, give your feet a break and try these out to get back in the game.
If you're like me, you've seen these Gel-Nimbus shoes on other feet for years, looking better than any other running shoe. But if you're also like me, maybe you're old school and have resisted, thinking ASICS was likely delivering pure window dressing. At the low-risk price threshold of under $100, I finally succumbed, and I'm elated.Observations: (1) No exaggeration, this Gel-Nimbus 22 model feels lightweight and spring-loaded: The cushion and bounce-back when pounding pavement is remarkable. (2) Mesh fabric perforations throughout the shoe's body empower elite breathability. (3) I love its tread, which I'm fussy about for the same reasons I overanalyze tires -- I want maximized surface area contact, but I also want any rain/water pushed out from underneath me. (4) Wonderfully inconspicuous midsole. (5) Fit is true to U.S. sizing. (6) Looks great with jeans, too. This is an elite running/jogging shoe you have to try at least once, which is a good predictor for buying twice. Proceed to checkout! - (Was this of use? Great fit, comfortable, can stand around in them all day if needed. They are great fitting shoes, they provide plenty of cushion and support, and I have no other issues with this shoe, other than they are heavy and a bit bulky. They are a running shoes, so that throws me a bit. I would get these more for every day wear than for a long run, based on the weight and bulkiness. I’m glad some shoe companies are still selling wide fits, not everyone wants to wear the same “dad shoe” models we seem to be forced to wear.
