Capezio's Jr. Footlight shoe is perfect for any performance, whether it's character or theatrical. The shoe features a traditional buckle closure for custom fitting, and a shapely, mid-cut heel that's just the right height. The suede sole makes it easier to glide across the floor. Salvatore Capezio was born in 1871 in Muro Lucano, Italy. Uninterested in following in his father's footsteps as a construction engineer, he became an artist of his own right, a cobbler. In 1887, at the age of 17, he opened his shop on Broadway and 39th Street, diagonally across from the old Metropolitan Opera House in New York City. Soon, the shop became a meeting place for dancers who would stop by to discuss their needs and to get a pair of his shoes. As Capezio's popularity grew, dancers from around the world made it a point to visit him and purchase his shoes. The innovation of the products that Salvatore Capezio created and the camaraderie he shared with the dancers molded the direction that his company would follow. In this image, the Capezio brand was established to promote and recognize ongoing achievements and participation in dance. Capezio products remain in the forefront in quality and in technological advances with innovations like the split-sole, the stretch-insert, the Dansneaker and the Tapsneaker. Capezio believes that their success is dependent upon the individual commitment of each customer to continually set new standards of creativity and performance, while preserving a reputation for dependability and distinction. Capezio pledges their support and dedication to the advancement of dance, theater and recreation in communities worldwide.

I was so happy to find that these very comfortable dancing shoes, "Capezio Women's 459 Suede Sole Jr. Footlight Character Shoe" were still available and they had my size, 7W, in Black! I love them because they are SOFT, REAL Leather, have a wide 1.5 inch heel, and a suede sole. The fit is perfect and I can dance in them for hours despite my foot problems. I owned and wore another pair in the past, that are very comfortable to dance in, despite my bunions, and have lasted a very long time. The only "negatives" are that the heels are not covered in suede with exposed nails, along with very minimal arch support. However, these problems were easily solved by having a shoe repair person apply suede covers on the heels and wearing my usual orthotics with them. The cost at that time for the suede heel covers, several years ago, was only $6.I am disappointed that the "Caramel" color is no longer available, in this exact shoe, in my size. I can only wear non-synthetic, REAL Leather on my feet which seems to be increasingly difficult to find now, and everything about this "459" shoe is perfect. I hope that it becomes available again in the near future.
The fit in bare feet is slightly loose, so when I use nylon or cotton pedis it's just right. I dance Argentine tango, not the dancing with the Stars type. This is my first time using a suede sole shoe and I will never go back to leather. The suede makes it easier to cross my feet and turn while my balance feels solid. I preferred the shorter heelDon't wear these shoes on any surface except a proper wood dance floor or it will ruin the smooth suede sole.
I like the look and feel (in a sitting position) of these shoes. However, once I stood up, my big toe(s) became cramped. I have not tried these at a dance yet, so I am not sure how comfortable they would be on the floor. After reading a lot of the reviews, I decided to go with my instincts instead and purchased these in my shoe size - lesson learned. I will plan to buy another pair at least 1/2 size higher next time. This style of shoe has always been a favorite of mine and unfortunately, my regular dance shoe store no longer stocks them. I was very happy to find them here on Amazon.com!
I bought these in the hope of having more comfortable character shoes than the pair (by Danca) I've worn for years. These were a horrible overpriced disappointment. Although the heel height is fine, the leather flexible, the shoe fit a bit too large and the whole shoe felt flimsy. So I put a thin foam innersole in them and wore them for a couple of hours for a performance. When I removed the shoes, both of my feet had cuts on them, about halfway between the ankle and the base of the big toe. The cuts were almost an inch long and took over a month to disappear, meanwhile, they looked horrible and I couldn't wear sandals til they healed. The forward opening of the shoe has a sharpness to it that actually scratched my flesh! Sadly, I'd bought these ahead of time & by the time I'd worn them, once, the window to return them had closed. I plan to advise the manufacturer and send them the photos of my cut feet! I've worn Capezio character shoes for over 30 years and the quality of these is just not up to par - they feel very cheap & not worth the price!
I ordered these shoes because I bought the same exact pair of shoes two years ago and those shoes are very, very comfortable. The pair I received a couple of weeks ago fit very tight and I had to return them. I compared the soles of the two pair of shoes and the newer pair looks like it is cut smaller. I recommend ordering these shoes a half size to a whole size larger than normal.
The style is cute. The color is great. The heal height was perfect. I ordered a wide and I couldn’t wear it because it was too tight. Maybe I need some “Kinky Boots.” I am short and squat and so are my feet. Going back to Dansco. But if you have narrow feet, these are very cute.
I have a very wide foot and have been unable to find a EE dance shoe since Covid . This one seems like it might work in a longer shoe. I’m waiting to see.
I owned a similar Capezio shoe before and it always hurt my toes. After reading the reviews, I ordered one half size larger than my normal street shoe and in the W width. The shoes seemed very comfortable and it appeared they would not hurt my toes because of the W width. However they were just too large (gap at the heel).I have returned them and ordered my street size in W width. I am hoping they will fit and be comfortable.
