New Balance Men's Fresh Foam X 840F V1 Running Shoe, Aluminum Grey/True Red, 11 Wide

I'm a Nurse and put in the miles on my shoes. These are my "work" shoes which I only wear at work and have a separate pair for everyday use. I am prone to plantar fasciitis so need the cushion and support. These so far have provided both since delivery on 10/05/23. Today is the 17th. I wore my last pair for too long (about 8 months) and the pain in my feet was coming back. My last pair was also Fresh Foam. They work great for me. My size can be a little hard to find 11.5 4E (I'm a male...) Highly Recommend.

Bought for my son. Very comfortable and the tongue is designed where the outer sides are longer to prevent from the tongue rolling over to the outside.Also the shoe is higher than what we bought before. So makes you look taller.I actually bought a pair for myself as well.

Since i damaged my ankle many years ago these are the best ever shoes ever to support my ankleI love them and what they do for my comfort

Having worn the Fresh Foam More V3 for the last two years, I was sorry to see it discontinued and replaced by the V4. To my surprise, New Balance rebranded the old 840 into this Fresh Foam model and the shoe looked virtually identical to the old More V3. Looks, however, can be deceiving.The good:-The shoe retains the rocker sole and general comfort of the old More V3. It is a comfortable shoe underfoot and the fabric upper breathes well.-The shoe comes in normal, wide(2E) and extra wide (4E) sizes. Mine is a 13(4E). I wore a 2E in the old More V3 so this shoe is a little narrower.The Bad:-The tongue of the shoe is shorter the the V3. If you wear an orthotic, this may not be the shoe for you. When I tried an orthotic in the shoe, it changed my foot height in the shoe bed enough that the short tongue almost runs out of room to protect you from the laces and is uncomfortable to walk.-The shoelaces will not stay tied no matter how tight you pull the knot. Feels like I need now biters lol. Damn annoying.-I’m not sure if this is a defect in the shoe or just the pair I received. There is an indentation in the fabric near the big toe in each shoe(Photo). It seems like the machine over stitched this area and puckered the fabric. It is enough that it causes rubbing against the side of one big toe and becomes uncomfortable after long walks.Overall, I was disappointed in the shoe as I guess I was expecting more having worn the V3 previously. It’s an okay shoe but with the likes of the Fresh Foam V4, the new 1080, the ASICS Gel Nimbus 25 and the Brooks Ghost Max now available as Max Cushioned shoes, I may be moving on after this pair of New Balance 840’s.

This is an outstanding shoe for extra wide feet with high arches!

Fit is great and it is easier to walk and run !

What a crappy shoe

I really want to write a review because I feel like these shoes deserve more attention and credit. To begin with, these shoes bear the model number 840 (takedown model of 940), which New Balance traditionally categorizes as a medium cushion high stability shoe for people with severe overpronation. However, the category for New Balance Fresh Foam 840 v1 really changed upon its design’s departure from the ABZORB midsole and introduction of the Fresh Foam X midsole. This significant shift of the shoe’s category is what I believe to be the source of this shoes’ negative reviews.Upon first impression, these shoes appear identical to the New Balance Fresh Foam More v3, but with a closer examination, there are distinct differences that set them apart. Fresh Foam More v3 is a max cushion shoe with a stack height of 38mm heel and 34mm toe weighing at 10.80 oz. Fresh Foam 840 v1 is a high cushion shoe with a stack height of 35mm heel and 31mm toe weighing at 9.4 oz. Fresh Foam More v3 has a softer cushion in comparison to the firmer cushion of Fresh Foam 840 v1. Furthermore, Fresh Foam 840 v1 has a streamlined fit with a wide toe box and tighter midfoot for a more secure lockdown.Although New Balance does not categorize Fresh Foam 840 v1 as stability shoe, it is inherently very stable. The firmer but still comfortable foam allows the foot to rest on a solid foundation, the wide flare platform along with lateral and medial sidewalls prevent the foot from rolling inward and outward, and the rocker design smoothly guide and transition the foot forward with each step. All these features come together by offering guidance and promoting stability, and unlike traditional methods of stability, it does not feature a medial post. Engineers and designers of running shoe companies are exploring and experimenting with new ways of making a more comfortable stability shoe. It is worth mentioning the New Balance Vongo v5 is another similar shoe that features all these stability methods but with the addition of a gradient medial post for even more stability.With that said, the New Balance Fresh Foam 840 v1 really belongs to the category of a high cushion mild to moderate stability shoe. I recommend these stable neutral shoes for someone who enjoys high cushions in need of above average stability that do not play well with traditional methods of stability that are often more intrusive and cause discomfort and even pain. These shoes can be great for long distance runs, recovery runs, or just walking long distances.I am a running and health enthusiast, and I initially purchased these shoes for my aging father who has flat feet and experience overpronation. The New Balance Fresh Foam 840 v1 offered my father lots of comfort and support and he really enjoys wearing these shoes. I really hope my review can shed more light on these shoes and help more people in finding the right comfort and support for good health.
