CONTROL MAX is rated for adventurous pursuits at extreme cold temperatures. Polar Proven® in some of the world's harshest climates, this boot series is not only technically superior, but also lightweight and flexible. Recommended during moderate levels of activity, CONTROL MAX offers everything you need in a performance winter footwear companion. Tested in extremely low temperatures, this Control Max boot from Baffin is sure to keep you warm and comfortable. This durable boot features a fully-tractioned sole for a non-slip grip, a removable boot liner for extra insulation from the cold, and a top cinch to keep the warmth inside. Twenty-five years ago Baffin Footwear began manufacturing insulated and non-insulated footwear products. While traditional molded boots are suitable for some conditions, they are not ideal for cold temperatures. Baffin combines leading molding technology with a foam-based inner boot system, which creates a hybrid style of high-performance footwear. This equates to more warmth, better fit, and superior comfort. Baffin boots are different than most shoes and work boots because the sole and midsole are molded to the base in one continuous process. The sole itself is a marvel of modern engineering because it is made up of several advanced thermo-set polymers that are combined together to achieve the right balance of warmth, protection, low weight and grip. Baffin is dedicated to offering boots with functionality and fashion, while still maintaining their legendary performance. See more

I bought it for my Northern state hunts. First thing I noticed was how it gently enclosed my leg and foot comfortably and evenly with no pressure points. Walking was cushioned but adequately supported. They held up well to the cold. My first day saw temperatures at -16°f for hours. My feet were never cold. I had Sorel Caribou for years, but these are far more supportive.
My husband wore the first pair for 5 years and he wanted the exact same boot when it was time to replace them. Baffins are the only brand that are sure to keep your feet warm in extreme temperatures AND they hold up really well. Best product out there.
These boots were a purchase in anticipation of the winter of 2013, which turned out to be one of the coldest winters on record. I used these boots regularly throughout the winter to snowshoe, camp, hike and basically recreate outdoors in northern Minnesota. One particular week had me camping for 5 days and 4 nights in temps bottoming out around -30 degrees F. Overall the boots proved to fit well, are waterproof, easy to lace and warm enough for most activities. I was generally more comfy than my friends who had other boots. but then again, these Baffin's cost me about double what those guys paid for their other boots. That said, the rating of the lower temp limit on these in the -100 or more range is absurd and unrealistic. My feet did get very cold when not actively moving when temps were only as cold as -20 f. I added felt insulating liners to the footbed, and that helped some, but the bigger issue is that the inner liner has a really big sew seam in a u-shape across the entire top of the boot. I could actually feel the cold bleeding in where that seem is. Baffin should fix that design flaw to get 5 stars. Given how much these boots cost, I'm not sure I got the full measure for my money.
They felt snug at first but now that the insulation layers have compressed and formed to my foot the fit and feel great. With the insulation in the calf area being so thick it's difficult to pull my hunting pants legs over the boot, which is something you want for deeper snow. But these boots are surprisingly light and very warm. Best PACs I've ever owned in 50 years of hunting
I was in the market for new winter boots as I live in MN and before Thanksgiving we already have had several inches of snow and we have 4” of ice on smaller lakes. For me, it came down to the Sorel Caribou or something from Baffin. After researching I found a fair amount of negative reviews on the Sorel boots since they were acquired by Columbia. With that being said, I decided to search outside of the Sorel brand.Baffin products kept showing up with very positive reviews so I did more digging. For me it came down to the Control max or the Shackelton. As I have never really have snow trickle into my boot, and I likely will not need a boot rated to -100 I decided to save some money and opt for the Control Max. I also should mention I took advantage of a 20% off “Fall Footwear” so I couldn’t pass this up.I ordered a half size larger than my tennis shoe so they would still fit with a big wool sock and they work great. The first time I put them on I was blown away by the comfort. They were more comfortable than my slippers. They hug your foot yet are still flexible and keep it warm in any condition. So far I have not pushed them to the limits but after shoveling a few times and ice fishing once they have exceeded expectations. I should mention that when I was fishing there was about 1” of water on the ice that I hiked through and had no issue with water intrusion. The only con I have (and this is minor) is how bulky they are. Unless it is single degree temps outside I usually wear my flannel or fleece lined fire hose pants from Duluth Trading and I found it somewhat tough to fit the cuff of the pant leg over the boot. Like I said, this is minor.Overall I give these boots 5 stars. I’ve only worn them a handful of times but I think we are in for a long winter here in MN so I’ll be wearing these often.
I bought these for my son that just went to Montana for the winter, living in GA we don’t have this type of boot for sale locally so I took a chance and ordered online. He absolutely loves them, they keep his feet warm working outside in the sun zero temps and says they are super comfortable.
I live in northern Minnesota not far from Canadian border and bought these mainly for ice fishing. My feet used to get cold even in moderately cold weather because of just standing on the ice. My other boots we're 10 1/2 I bought an 11, maybe would be a little tight if wearing wool socks, but will probably loosen up a bit too but boots are so warm I'll never need thicker socks. I wore these the first time recently on not a super cold afternoon, probably got down to 15deg F. My feet never got cold at all. I have no doubt these will keep my feet warm no matter what temperature I'm on the ice. Boots are super comfortable and light Pants don't go over boots as seen on other reviews but snow pants easily do. I would certainly recommend to anyone.
I bought these in 2018 and have had them for 5 winters. Super warm and dry. I paid $140 for them in 2018. Definitely a great boot. It gets to 15 deg with feet of snow and they work amazing. Good traction also.
