We are Canada's Boot maker. It's been that way since 1910. Deeply ingrained in our approach is the knowledge that where we put effort, we find pride, sweat, hard work, good planning, smart thinking, determination to overcome - we celebrate these moments of progress. They can be simple everyday moments - or steps toward collective accomplishments. In this spirit, Kodiak makes boots for the men and women who push forth. Who beat a path to their workshops, worksites and factories everyday - no matter what. The ones who keep going because the desire to see what's down the path or around the corner pulls them ahead. Those who dig in, reach out and find a way to move forward. Because progress matters more than achievement. And progress only happens when we're in it together.

This was the second pair I purchased. First pair did the same thing. And it socks. Boots are very comfortable. Look good and feel good. Craftsmanship socks. And it's impossible to contact kodiak. I've tried
These are quality all-around boots, much like Thursday Boot Company - quality leather, good soles, goodyear welt - except they come standard with Thinsulate insulation and have an inner waterpoof liner. Now despite this liner, as with all good leather you'll want to condition or oil the leather to keep it looking new and the water off. And even with the liner and being treated with mink oil, I still found my boots breathable - this is very important and not always the case with all boots. As a hiker, I have owned boots that are next to useless because they make my feet sweat, even in winter.. and then your feet freeze. The leather is a good mix of durable but also soft and breaks in well. It's rich and has character - it's not heavilty treated on the outside or looks plasticy. I like this, and that you can choose to darken these boots somewhat with your waterproofer or oil of choice, although I opted just to use some mink oil which barely darkened them. If you want little to no change, use a conditioner. It also makes it easy to correct scratches - I have expensive LL. Bean boots where the treated leathers thin outer layer eventually scratches and fades off and there's nothing you can do to correct this. The soles are long wearing, but are not overly hard and I found them more grippy then some of my firmer vibram soled hiking boots. But more grippy still than my Timberlands which are similarly soft rubber.I really enjoy that these boots look great and get compliments, but are not overly dressy, and still masculine and functional. These are tough yet comfortable enough to use for work, they fit and perform well enough and have good soles for hiking, and they are warm and waterproof and have good grip for winter in the city while still looking sharp.I think those that are having issues are using these boots - because of their rugged looks - as a dedicated construction or heavy work boot. These are, categorically, a lifestyle boot, and a great one at that.
Taking an afternoon hike? Do you live in the midwest and have to shovel yourself out of your house every other day? Are you into dressing like a sexy lumberjack? Obviously you answered yes and that means these boots are for you. Comfortable as all heck. Laces could be better but when that's the only issue (if you could even call it an issue), then you can say these are pretty damn great boots.
Update: In my original review I was concerned about the overall durability of these boots. Turns out, after three months, they're falling apart. To make matters worse, Kodiak has not responded to my warranty request. It's been more than 2 weeks since I submitted all the warranty information to them. My two other inquiries have gone unanswered. Do not purchase.Original review:I love these boots. Very comfortable and waterproof out of the box. Warm for cooler temps. The only complaint is the durability of the leather. I already have several cuts and scratches with just normal wear. Time will tell if they hold up, but luckily, I'm only wearing them in an office setting with the occasional trip to the field. I have a narrow foot so the laces are a bit long when laced up. I had to change them with 54 inch laces that are perfect.
These boots are great in many ways, they are very comfortable since first use, warm, look nice but I had a problem with the outsole (it starts to fall apart in the front after just 5 or 6 time of using them). I used them only for street walking in cold days, not snow or rain, so I am not sure if the waterproof protection is still working after this issue. Maybe they need just a bit of glue to repair them, but as I am not sure what will happen after that I just order a replacement for them. In general I really like the boots, but for this issue I gave them 4 starts (I spect that this issue is only a coincidence and that new ones works fine when they arrive)
I'm calling this an "urban" boot as I wouldn't put this in the "work" or "great outdoors" boot category, like Georgia boots, Redwing or Timberland PRO, etc. That's if you work in construction or in a hazardous environment where boots are under constant exposure to jagged objects. I say that because the leather is soft and will nick with micro tears relatively easily. That said, the softness makes it a very comfortable subtle boot right out of the box, for me. I have "standard" feet that fit well in most major boot brands with few rub issues and these are really snug and flexible compared to my outdoors hunting and work centric boots which took time to break in.It's a great looking "hipster" boot with a very well proportioned traditional look, good for cold and wet weather with a good gripping sole. It's warm too - Obviously not a full on winter boot but great for getting A to B in cold weather when your Sorel Caribous are too big and bulky for the task. For me, these will be perfect for light work around the cabin - trips to the store in winter, and so on.
I order these shoes through "prime wardrobe" and bunch of other shoes. I tried these on and they felt very comfortable but they were very tight. I normally wear size 12 and all my shoes are 12 but these felt more like 11 or even 10½. The shoes felt like very good quality materials and very good workmanship. I returned mine but I would highly recommend these and whoever orders pair should order at least 1 size bigger than they normally wear.
Great quality leather boots, hard to beat for the price. A little too stiff at first but after a bit of break-in they fit like a glove. Still difficult to take on and off after a month of frequent use however, almost need to completely unlace and replace each time. Comfortable, practical, great daily drivers.
