After breaking my foot, again in the same area, my Orthopedist ordered me to wear a carbon insert in my shoe and stiff slippers or sandals, rather than my usual sports recovery slippers that he said are too soft and flexible. He had recommended a different, more expensive, brand, but I remembered my old “pals” from my college days. As part of the ballet troupe, our Director required us to wear the Dr. Scholl’s then wooden sole clogs during some rehearsals because she could tell when we were out of synch. 🤣 But, they were so comfortable and made our feet strong. So, I ordered these, now with a synthetic “wood” sole. I have ridiculously high arches and need more support than these provide; otherwise, I am strengthening my foot wearing them and my Orthopedist would be pleased. I took this photo while wearing my boot socks when outdoor temps were in the teens; had just recently received the clogs.Pros: sturdy, stiff foot support; fits as expected; non-slip soleCons: somewhat slippery upper; little arch support
The material the shoe is made of depends on the style of the shoe. The leather ones with the metal buckles are the White, Tan and Elegant Navy. The buckle lifts up to unlock it so you can adjust the width. The shoes that are made of faux leather are the Black, Coral and Gardenia cutouts. The White/Navy, Silver and the Silver/Taupe are a shiny made made material and they just like the cutout colors have a sliding buckle to change the width.Unfortunately for me, the leather ones will fit a wider foot. I wear a 7 1/2 B(M) and have a slightly narrow foot and I could not wear this style. And tightening the strap wouldn't work because then it was so small that I couldn't even get my foot under the strap. This is not a problem with the other pairs that I bought.I bought 3 pairs of these shoes and my absolute favorites are the White/Navy and the Coral cutout. They are so comfortable and the Coral one really looks classy. And even though the White/Navy doesn't go with as many outfits; it is a great price and they are so cute. Both of these shoes have a very cushy, comfortable and supportive footbed. My least favorite pair that I bought is the Silver/Taupe (a pretty bone khaki color) because underneath the strap is a blue jean colored fabric that does not have much give in it. I can't wear these shoes for long periods. They also do not have the same footbed as the other 2 pairs and the shoes are heavierI have a bad back and can't wear shoes normally over 1" but because the platform on these is 3/4" then the 1 1/2" heel only feels like 3/4".And I am so glad I am able to wear pretty shoes again that makes my back feel better.
I reviewed these sandals soon after getting them and gave them a 5-star rating. They were comfortable and I really loved them. I have to drastically change my rating, however, due to the way these new sandals slip off the foot. Two years ago as I was getting on a plane, I was wearing these sandals. As I walked down the ramp to board the plane, my foot slipped out and down I went. I got hurt so badly that the airline wanted to me go to the hospital. The only reason they let me fly was that there were 3 different doctors on board who said they would monitor me on the flight. The airline actually arranged for me to have the middle aisle of seats so they could create a makeshift bed allowing me to keep my leg iced and elevated the entire flight. It was a long, painful, horrible trip home. The following day I went to my doctor and was told that I had severe contusions running from my ankle up to my thigh.I was on crutches for weeks, and just assumed that I had been klutzy and the fall was just "one of those things." Not thinking that the sandal itself was the cause for my fall, I went and bought myself another pair this past summer. During the summer months, I slipped out of these shoes about three different times. Nothing bad, but I was able to catch myself or grab onto a tree as I thought I was about to fall. I chalked it up to walking too fast and thought it was probably my fault, although I made a point of being very careful whenever I put them on. Fast forward to Sept. 2017.Again, I was traveling overseas and was wearing these sandals. On our final day in London, I had my Dr. Scholl's on as we were heading back to our hotel. Sunny day, strolling along the street, I once again walked right out of these shoes and down I went. My injury this time was even worse than the last time. As I was wheeled in a wheelchair through the airport, my husband stopped, looked down at me and said, "These are the same sandals you were wearing when you fell the last time and got hurt so badly," It all clicked. He was right. I am writing this to warn you to not buy these sandals. My injuries were serious and I don't want anyone else to have to deal with the pain that I've had to endure. My knees still ache from my fall and I'm now looking at surgery.
I loved the old Dr. Scholls wooden slides so I bought these as a new replacement. I knew they weren't the original and likely would never find those but these have been a satisfactory alternative. The rubber sole and platform is more cushioning than I thought which was a good thing and the front upper is comfortable with no issues. The only reason I docked 1 star was due to the inferior quality of rubber instead of wood and velcro instead of buckles compared to the original. Otherwise, nice shoe that's worth it to have the look of the older popular sandal.
