I normally wear a 12 wide shoe, 12.5 wide in running shoes; my foot is reasonably wide & tall.I tried both the 12 and 13 in this Reef sandal. With the 12, I couldn't even get my foot under the thong. The 13 was better, but the strap still felt fairly tight on the outside. I otherwise liked the construction of the sandal, so I took the chance that it would loosen up a bit when broken in, and kept the 13.Unfortunately, things didn't improve after several days of wear. However, because the sandal looked very sturdy, I took a risk on modifying it to improve the fit. Both ends of the strap have a "Y" shape that connect to the sole at two separate points, each about an inch in length. Since the tightness in mine was around the outside/front of the sandal, I used a utility knife to cut the outside front connection of the "Y" to the sole (a single cut as close as I could get to the rubber, so it would be less obvious), leaving just the back connection intact. At a glance, you can't even tell it has been modified, and as I hoped, the construction is sturdy enough that I've had no trouble at all with only half the connection on that side.This freed up a ton of space for me, and the sandal fits very well now - snug, not too tight, and I have walked many miles since with no issues of rubbing, blistering, etc. The padding is excellent, and it is very comfortable as an everyday sandal. Would buy and mod again.
I love this particular version of the Reef Sandal.They are such a good sturdy flipflop and not bad looking either. This is my 4th pair over many years. I am disabled with spine issues, at home 24/7 pretty much and have tile floors. Where I live we can have a tendency to have indoor scorpions now and then and they match the tile. So sandals are my year round house shoes as a few have been stepped on over the years. Anyway. The heel is cushy firm shock absorber for my back, arch has great support. I am a female with wide feet so I get the mens 8 and they are perfect. I would say they only way these flip flops degraded was due to daily lotion on the feet. But they still last forever. Pair #3 surprisingly only last 2+ years and almost fell on my fact because the toe thing broke as I was walking. None of the first 2 pairs ever did that and I wore them much longer. So I was pleased to find this verson still out there. They came fast and are just perfect. I can't be happier with this particular version of the sandal. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

It can be challenging to get the right fit for a shoe when ordering on line. I'd say the Reefs for Men run true in size if you follow the sizing guide. The only issue you may run into is whether or not you have a wider/fatter foot since the foot bands are inset to the foot bed rather than attached to the outside of the flop. I purposely searched this out since I have a narrower foot and wanted to have a snugger fit. The inset bands on the flop are perfect for me and the size 11 was a good choice for my 10 3/4 foot length. If you have a wider foot, then you may want to look for bands that are on the outside of the footbed. Otherwise, great quality, good choice. I've had these for a number of months and no issues so far!
