The Terra Fi 5 are great sandals. As with most sandals, they take a little while to break-in. But once they do, they are very comfortable and keep your feet anchored in place. The style is simple and not very exciting, but these are intended for long hikes, not fashion. The sandals are heavier and stiffer than most other Teva offerings. They are very comparable to Chacos or the Bedrock Cairns. The break-in process, unfortunately, can be very painful. Due to the way the sandals are constructed, they will do a lot of rubbing against your heels. The result can be chaffing, blistering, or something in between. It's not pleasant and it can take many days to fully break-in. This is the unfortunate reality of virtually all footwear, but given the stiffness of these sandals, it's particularly pronounced. So be prepared to have some messed up heels for a few days. But once they are broken in, it's worth it.GO DOWN A SIZE! I normally wear a size 10, but the Terra Fi size 10 was too large. Had a lot of space in front of my toes. Going down to size 9 made a huge difference. (Tevas in general seem to be fairly big so I'd recommend going down 1-2 sizes). You want the front straps just behind your toes, not covering them. Getting the sizing right is very important with any pair of sandals, especially ones like these that are intended for long hikes. You will absolutely hate the look and feel of these sandals if the sizing is wrong. The Terra Fi can weigh you down as it is intended for serious hiking and multi-day trips. They are overkill for everyday wear and most light hiking. If that is what you are interested in, I would recommend the Hurricane line over the Terra Fi. The Hurricanes are lighter and have a softer footbed, available in more colors, and is geared more towards less strenuous activities, while emulating the look of the Terra Fi.
I love these sandals. They are phenomenal.Very comfortable and have great arch support.I will be buying these again!
I agree with many reviews that the shoes don't need breaking in. They are flexible and comfortable on the first wear. I had no trouble adjusting the straps for comfort.
Have been wearing Teva's 25+ years and my only complaint is when they took away the quick connect clips on the straps which I think make putting them on or taking them off easier than having to thread the Velcro every time. I fortunately have old pairs that I removed the clips from and hand sew them to each new Teva pair I buy so it's not the end of the world just a PITA. The new Teva's also seem to lack in the rubber quality department. My old one's would last 10 years but the past few pairs I have purchased the rubber gets hard after about 5 years and either starts to crumble/break apart OR becomes hard enough to be slippery on tile/concrete/smooth flooring. Have not found anything better so I'll just keep working them as I do until Teva brings back the clips or I find a better brand.
What's good about these is not only are they best made brand, but also very reliable. The same pair was bought spring 1989 and finally gave in a couple days ago. This same model arrived today, and the straps are slightly longer for us high-arched types. Definitely made for serious walking by people who spent quite some time thinking/planning this out. Keep it up!
These are mens, which is what I wanted. The order confirmation listed them as womens, even though they are labeled mens on the Amazon site. I have worn Tevas for years and love them. Only thing I would have liked before was a more aggressive sole, which is excellent on these. Light padding inside the straps at several points also improves the comfort. I have always worn a size 10 in Tevas, but I tried on a 9 at an outdoor store and they were a perfect fit (also listed for $40 more than I paid here). For what I do and put these through, there is nothing I would change.
These Tevas do not last. First of all, I ordered MENS Teva's, NOT WOMENS. My husband wore them for 2 months and the heel strap torn out. He has worn Tevas for years, and have found them to be dependable well made, and extremely durable. These have been disappointing to say the least. There seems to be no way to contact the manufacturer to attempt to make this right. Very disappointed.
Tevas fit my wide foot and hold up for use in salt water better than other brands.
