The Velcro is not attached to the tongue of the shoe and I wish the back was Velcro too for a better fit.
My 4 year old son is a size 12-12.5 and I ordered him a 13 in these sandals so that he would have some room to grow. They fit great and they're plenty loose enough without falling off him or making him trip when he runs. He may even be able to wear them next summer depending on how much his feet grow. I'm pleased with how well made they are, and he seems to be comfortable in them. I haven't noticed any red marks on his feet either, even when he's worn them for several hours!
