… but, turns out, I had nothing to worry about, and ended up a very happy customer. They do take a tad bit longer to arrive, understandably.I’ve worn Merrell’s before therefore I kind of knew what to expect. “Glove“ is an appropriate term for them. They wrap around your feet and really don’t give you that much room, but they are not uncomfortably tight. Quite the contrary, they are soft, suede leather that will comfortably wrap around either your bare feet, or thick socks (provided you have ordered a size up for the thick socks). If you look at them from the side, you will see that there is not all that much room in the toe area material. So, they do kind of fit like a glove but if you know this going in, you won’t be disappointed. They will also stretch as, like I said, they are a very soft leather.I realize now, after many years, that I am so used to wearing zero-drop shoes that I can no longer wear thick platforms and heels, such as the ones made for running and hiking. I recently tried on a pair and felt all the while like I was tipping forward. If you like feeling the ground under you a little bit, and good balance, these are the ones to go with. If the sole is too thin, just stick in an insert, as you see I did for mine. I got those inserts from Amazon as well. All in all, happy with Amazon UK, as well as with my Merrells. 😎👍🏼👟👟
I love these shoes and they are close to perfect! Originally gave them 4/5 because there was a little spot where the sole appeared to be separating from the upper, but after several months of heavy use they are basically still as good as new.I have some ankle issues and tight calves, so I thought barefoot shoes might help me strengthen the ankle muscles and allow my calves to stretch without a chunky heel. So far, they seem to be helping. I was initially concerned about stability, since one of my feet kind of collapses (overpronates) and this shoe doesn't really have arches, but honestly I have way less knee and ankle pain wearing these than a typical shoe. The zero drop is awesome. The toe box is pretty roomy (more roomy than they need to be for my narrow feet, but still comfy) and the heel is snug. I've been wearing these hiking on dry (and sometines rainy) days in the PNW with no problems and I wear them to class every day as well. I wear size 7.5 in most shoes, and these were true to size. The rubber sole is somewhat asymmetrical, meaning one shoe has slightly more coverage than the other on the toe. Kind of weird, but not a big issue. They really do fit like gloves. The arch area hugs my foot nicely and it barely feels like I'm wearing shoes. The only thing that keeps them from being perfect trail shoes in my mind is the lack of tread and the low ankle (which allows lots of dirt, rocks, and leaves to get in). I would love to see a shoe like this with a neoprene sock built in.Compared to vivobarefoot's magna trail shoes, these are way nicer and comfortable. The vivobarefoots are wide and clunky, while the merrells are form fitting.
Overall great shoe! Super narrow even for me!Pros:Grip very well- love the grip they have, actually helps when on ice! Suede option I love. Durable. Light. Stylish!!!Cons:Toe box is awkward- toes able to spread out but there is room in front of my toes. Buying size smaller was too small. Think it’s just the rubber making it feel like there is more room. Rubber comes up ontop of shoe, makes walking off. But guess it helps if you stub your toe.Arch support- there is minimal support. You will need to walk correctly, takes more conscious effort.Width- I have narrow feet but these are extremely narrow shoes! Probably why the arch appears low.I do like these. They are more casual and do not look like an athletic shoe. Wish they would make a suede newer version!
The middle of the shoe is too narrow, the top of my left foot started hurting like mad when I first got them. They would work with a wider tongue space and longer laces. The toe box is just wide enough, but definitely tighter than I expected (I have just had a fourth baby and I have spent most of the last several years barefoot or in sandles, so my feet are wider than average all around). I have been wearing these around the house for 3 days with 2 pairs of socks to help break in the leather. The pain went away but they still feel too tight around the middle and rub the top of my foot the wrong way. I have the laces so loose (and they are short at that), I can't tie them at all, I just tuck the ends in. I want these to work because they are the best looking, neutral colored, relatively affordable, minimal leather shoes I can find. I am going to order a half size up and see if that helps. I wish they offered these in wide sizes or smaller sizes in the mens version. I hope they broaden the tongue in future versions. A more finished leather that would hold up to wet weather would be nice. Will update when I try the half size up.
First putting them on you can tell they will be snug.. but that's a great part of the comfort as they are also very flexible. It seems there are perfect pockets of roominess in just the right places. I don't think I have particularly wide feet or narrow. Walking and moving about I'm feeling very sprightly... light on my feet. And the look of them... fantastic. The color actually will go with a lot.. similar to the wide pallette of working with a brown shoe. Love that they're a little bit funky looking. Can't do regular, clunky, heavy shoes.
These are beautiful, well made shoes but after becoming a barefoot runner my feet have become very sensitive to narrow shoes and as much as I wanted to keep these I’m going to have to send them back. I even sized up from 6.5 to 7 hoping they would be wide enough but it’s a no for me.
I've been walking at least 5 miles a day in them and it's been great. They're super flexible and comfortable and definitely make me look like I eat a bunch of granola.
