Just got these today and wanted to note something important before I forgot. I'll update this review later if necessary, but it's definitely a 5-star for now. When I first put them on, they felt like my size, but I felt like they were a little snug at the forefoot, right before the toes (especially for "wides"). I also worried that the toebox might be a bit small. They were comfortable, but I was a little concerned how they might feel after standing all day, when your feet may tend to swell a little.Typically, these sneaker-style safety shoes require very little to no break-in. But, after wearing these around the house for about six hours, they have loosened up quite a bit and are now perfectly comfortable. There's also good flexibility in the lacing system for adjustments, should they loosen up too much. So, don't worry if they are a bit snug at first. Maybe wear them on carpet for a while, do some kneeling and walk around quite a bit to see if they loosen up before returning them.Other than that, this is my third pair of Timberland Pro's (over the years), and I would say this pair fits my feet truer to size than the previous ones, which were a bit roomy. One foot is slightly larger than the other, so there's a somewhat narrow range for me to achieve dual-foot nirvana, and these do the trick. In my view, these shoes have the best stability of any sneaker-style safety shoe that I've had to date. In fact, despite having taken off a pair of boots to put these on, I have had to be reminded several times that these aren't boots! They didn't try to make a running shoe with a steel toe, and I really appreciate that.I like the aggressive soles, because you can transition between inside and outside jobs with the same shoe; however, as others have noted, you don't get as much rubber hitting the asphalt, so to speak, and may bust your *** on a slick, smooth surface as a result. In and around my house, the soles have been pretty grippy on synthetic hardwood, real hardwood and unfinished concrete surfaces. They are not nearly as non-slip as a quality hiking boot with a sticky, soft, floor-marking outsole, but who wants to wear a $150-200 boot to work and wear the soles out in 3 months? Finally (for now), having shoelaces that aren't completely black adds just a touch of flair. It's a minor thing, but that bit of subtlety breaks up the monotony of the solid black shoe while preserving a "professional" appearance. If you are on the fence, these shoes are worth giving a shot.
The best steel toe shoe I've bought for work so far. I've gone through maybe 7 pairs of steel toe shoes. I'm 25 now and fairly heavy for my weight. I usually tear up shoes really easy at work. I work 10 hours a day at the airport so I do a whole lot of walking, bending, standing, and heavy lifting. I'm very surprised how light these are. They almost seem lighter than my running shoes! Very breathable as well. A lot of room to wiggle my toes around. I just bought these so I couldn't say for sure how long these will last me.The last pair of shoes I had wore me down at the end of the day. Back hurting and feet aching to where you wanna go home and rest. Once I got off work after wearing these though I felt I had more energy to do more things afterwards. Surprisingly comfortable even without Dr. Scholls or whatever comfortable foot inserts. The look of them really makes you wonder if these are made for hiking because they have a lot of tread on them. These might be a little expensive for you, but I guarantee you get your moneys worth. I definitely recommend these if you do a lot of walking and standing. 5 stars. It's been over a month since I purchased these and they still feel brand new to me. I can definitely tell my back has improved and the girlfriend has noticed I'm not as grumpy when I get home so there's been improvement on both sides! I've noticed there's no wear at all inside the shoe and out (except for the bottom of the shoe of course). I also forgot to mention I'm on concrete all day so it's expected the bottoms will wear down a little more than usual. Overall if you've been browsing for a comfortable, breathable, light, and durable steel toe shoe these are it. BUY THEM! YOU WON'T REGRET IT!I am finally retiring these bad boys and reordering another pair. They lasted me a little over a year at work and I'm very impressed of how well the treading had lasted. I will still use these veteran shoes for other uses besides work related stuff. I'm highly impressed. Thank you Timberland!
Excellent work shoes. Extremely comfortable, no rubbing or blisters, and the traction/grip/slip resistance on various surfaces is better than any shoe I've tried prior. I paired these with some padded worksocks, and my feet have been in heaven all year long. They are almost like snowshoes in the wintertime, tho they are not waterproof. The downside to these shoes is that imo if you do alot of heavy bending/flexing on the jobsite, I don't know if they'll last too long. With moderate work use like I put them through, I will get 1-year out of them. The outer seam where the leather flexes is starting to go on mine and this seems to be a common fault with others I've talked to who have this shoe. Also, they are great in cold/milder weather but HOT in the summertime. I think pairing them with a pair of quality worksocks helped in this regard. But even after a year, I haven't had to use any foot powder and they do not stink like other shoes I've had.Since I usually trade my shoes out after 1-year anyway and I live in a mild/colder climate, these issues don't bother me. If you're someone who does alot of heavy bending/flexing or you live in a hotter climate all year round, you might want to look at another shoe as the faults of this shoe could be magnified in your case. But they work for me and I plan to buy another pair of these Timberlands through Amazon when my yearly shoe allowance comes up in January.
