The Leona is packed with rugged features: a commando tread, an extra-empowering platform sole with a chunky heel, antiqued brass tunnel eyelets and a sleek silhouette. Dr. Martens is the stuff of legends. It all began near Munich, Germany in 1945 when Dr. Klaus Maertens injured his foot in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps. To make walking easier during the healing process, he designed a shoe with an air-cushioned sole. Using old rubber tires, he constructed soles that had air trapped within closed compartments. He showed his prototype to his engineer/inventor friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they decided to develop and produce the shoes. Not only did the shoe solve the doctor's immediate problem, but it also started to sell well in Germany. By 1959 the two decided that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. At first, many manufacturers rejected the concept of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group, located in the village of Wollaston in England, decided to go along with the idea by creating the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. On the first of April 1960, the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460. To sell the brand name better in England, the name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was branded AirWair and the rest is history.

Dr. Martens, also known as Doc Martens, Docs, or DMs, has stomped its way into history since 1901. Originally created by Dr. Klaus Maertens, a German soldier who designed a comfortable air-cushioned boot to aid his recovery from a broken foot, the footwear quickly gained popularity. In 1960, the brand we know today was born with the iconic 1460 boot, adopted by British working-class youth and later embraced by various subcultures for its durability and rebellious spirit.
Dr. Martens prioritizes both timeless design and rugged construction. Their shoes are instantly recognizable by their air-cushioned sole, yellow stitching, and utilitarian details. Made with high-quality leather, Dr. Martens boots and shoes are built to withstand years of wear and tear, making them a true investment piece.
First of all, I originally bought these boots for a trip to Europe, I wanted something versatile easy to add layers to warm up, mix and match, etc. Well I order them ahead of time, put them away and tried not to use them before my trip, oh well my trip stil hasn't come and I already wore them like five times, they are just INCREDIBLY BEAUTIFUL I couldn't resist. I wish I had a picture of one of the outfits I wore with them but I've been very busy. I'm probably going to add some pictures once I take pictures. I love that you can literally throw anything on you with this boots and you automatically look stylish and sophisticated. I also love the fact that is not the typical pair that everyone buys and the heel is a little bit higher than the regular ones but that is part of what makes these ones even better. I also size down, I usually buy 9 for flats and more thin shoes, for boots and sports shoes I wear a 8.5 and for this ones I decided to do 8 and it fits perfect with thick socks, it is a tiny bit loose if I wear regular socks but nothing to the point is uncomfortable. They are comfy, a little heavy but exactly what us expected from a pair of Docs and the quality of the product is great! Do not mind the bad reviews, they are in great shape.
These boots are both stylish and surprisingly comfortable. However they do run a bit large. If you’re a half size or waffle between a half size and the next size up, you probably want to size down (in my case as someone with size 7.5 fee, that meant going down to a 7). Unless you have wide feet or only wear really thick socks, sizing up will likely result in a too large boot. But if you’re fine adjusting as needed for the sizing issue, they’re worth it. They really are great boots.
These boots are really cool looking & comfortable to wear. I love the color too. Yes, they're heavy like most Docs, but I look at it as a good workout for my legs. The height is perfect--not too high, not too low. I'm super happy with them.
If anyone is curious about the sizing, you truly might want to size down! I have never in my adult life wore anything smaller than an 8, so imagine my surprise when the size 8 seemed too big! Now heres the thing, these boots are narrow and I have narrow feet, so I did the '7 day try before you buy' option and ordered a size 7. They actually fit like a glove! IF YOU HAVE WIDE FEET, try your usual size. Anyway! I love these boots. The style is timeless and they're instantly comfortable!
I love the Leona- I get so many compliments on them. You can also wear them through airport security, it will not trigger the metal detector. I usually wear 7.5-8 and I initially got the 8 wanting to leave room for thick socks. They were way too big. I got the 7.5 which still leaves room for socks, but to be honest I probably could have gone down to 7. They truly do run big. These boots are made to last!
The Boots are nice visually and the quality is very good. They are a little bit bigger than my usual foot size, but I would recommend to get your normal size because they work well with thick socks in the winter time. I once wore them with shorts socks and will never do that again.. High socks are best or you can get friction from the leather above ur ankles which can be an irritant. They are heavy in weight so not recommended if you have leg or feet issues. They give you a leg work out as it feels as if I am wearing weights around my ankle. I had to remind myself to pick my feet a little more while driving and pressing on the brakes of the car. They have weight to them. These are great for the young at heart. I recommend them as they are fashionable/ not my most comfortable yet, but I think after some wear and tear my feet will love them. The verdict is still out. I decided to return and get a full refund for them after realizing they were just too hefty big and it was never a matter of breaking them in. I suggest going a size down when ordering. The weight of these alone will give you a workout. But they are a fashion statement. Update : After a few wears I decided to rerun them and get a refund. Side note. Get a size smaller. Too big, heavy and clunky for me.
have wanted these since i was 14. have never liked a shoe (or boot) more than these. extreamly comfortable. expected them to need to be "broken in"... but nope. their ready to wear! no uncomfortable "new leather boot" feel. think it's because the sole is so amazing. great bounce. super easy to walk in. i wear a size 8 on regular shoes, but a 7&a half in boots normally. these don't have half sizes so got a 7... fits like a glove. prob can't wear thick socks or anything.... but didn't plan too. just knee socks or tights. was concerned they'd be too shiny.. but they aren't. they look... freaky gorgeous & cool as hell(if i can say that), & a damn sexy boot! I'm 43 but these make me feel like im a teenager again! obsessed! highly recommend
These boots are great. I order a size down and they fit permit! Room in the toe, I can wear heavier socks etc. They are so comfortable. Plus, they look good. I got these delivered right to my door under the eave, the very next day!!! Great service!
