Its iconic leather upper is spiced up with vivid attitude while the thick lug sole puts that certain toughness in the silhouette. Lace up a perfect fit and hit the town like a rock star in this fun find. It all began near Munich, Germany in 1945 when Dr. Klaus Maertens injured his foot in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps. To make walking easier during the healing process, he designed a shoe with an air-cushioned sole. Using old rubber tires, he constructed soles that had air trapped within closed compartments. He showed his prototype to his engineer/inventor friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they decided to develop and produce the shoes. Not only did the shoe solve the doctor's immediate problem, but it also started to sell well in Germany. By 1959 the two founders decided that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. At first, many manufacturers rejected the concept of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group, located in the village of Wollaston in England, decided to go along with the idea by creating the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. On the first of April 1960, the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460 (1/4/60). To sell the brand name better in England, the name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was branded AirWair and the rest is history. See more

Dr. Martens, also known as Doc Martens, Docs, or DMs, has stomped its way into history since 1901. Originally created by Dr. Klaus Maertens, a German soldier who designed a comfortable air-cushioned boot to aid his recovery from a broken foot, the footwear quickly gained popularity. In 1960, the brand we know today was born with the iconic 1460 boot, adopted by British working-class youth and later embraced by various subcultures for its durability and rebellious spirit.
Dr. Martens prioritizes both timeless design and rugged construction. Their shoes are instantly recognizable by their air-cushioned sole, yellow stitching, and utilitarian details. Made with high-quality leather, Dr. Martens boots and shoes are built to withstand years of wear and tear, making them a true investment piece.
I’ve wanted Doc’s since I was a teenager and we could never afford them. Obviously, back then, it was a trend thing. Now that I’m getting up there in age and have since been diagnosed with a connective tissue disorder, I needed some boots that would stabilize my ankles because I roll them multiple times a day, they’re prone to dislocate, and they always just hurt. My fiancé bought me these as a mother’s day gift because he knew I needed them, as well as how bad I’ve always wanted them. I put them on yesterday when they got here and they have been a dream! They are very true to size as well, I’ve kept them on to get them broken in.This is one thing that’s important to note with the classic Smooth Leather; they must be broken in! They’re going to be tight around the tongue stitching, especially if you have high arches, which I do. But you need to just put on some thick socks and suck it up. You can also stick full soda cans down in them when you’re not wearing them. Another thing that will help is shoe polish. Real shoe polish, not one of those quick clean sponges. If you have a hypermobility issue, I highly recommend them! Or, if you just have to be on your feet a lot, because they are incredibly comfortable and cause no foot/leg fatigue. I can’t wait to be able to go do things again that I wasn’t able to do because of my ankles!
If you don't know anything about Doc Martens, please do some real research before you buy them. They are beautiful, sturdy, all-purpose boots but they are an absolute nightmare to break in. I bought these months ago now and after casual wear they are still in the process of being broken in and they still rub my heels and give me blisters. You have to really work at these boots to get them to be soft and comfortable; they are made of the stiffest leather I've ever felt. Online sources recommend slamming them against the ground or pounding them with rubber mallets, that's how tough these boots are. That being said, they are unbelievably cute, go with any outfit and from what I've heard, they'll easily last you 10+ years. JUST PLEASE DON'T BUY THESE AND THINK YOU CAN WEAR THEM ALL DAY AFTER YOU TAKE THEM OUT OF THE BOX. You can't. You will die. Take it slow, do your research and you will have perfect, wonderful boots that are strong and last you a lifetime. Mine are still a little uncomfortable but I love them and I'm considering other colors. Great buy.
After years of wasting money on cheaper boots that i would wear out after the season, I finally decided to invest on the real deal. I love them, They look big and a little clunky but I can tell these are going to last a LONG time. I'm still breaking them in but it isn't as bad as I thought it'd be. Before i bought them i read the reviews, mostly because I was skeptical about buying from Amazon with such a low price for Docs. And i saw a lot of complaints about people returning because they were 'too stiff' or 'hurt too' much. These are going to hurt breaking in, as with any good shoe. They're perfect for marching around the woods around my house when things need to get done are to just go out. Practical, durable, and fits my wardrobe.
Love these boots. I've been looking everywhere and finally they are here. These are women's 6 and they are pretty true to size for me, 7 would be too big and 6.5 would be perfect if half size was offered. Probably too snug with thicker socks but that's fine I don't really like thick socks anyway. Very comfortable. Very cute, stylish, will go with anything! Wish they made half sizes. Only reason for the 4 stars. Really love these boots
These shoes are wonderful! The shoes are true to size(I'm a size 6 and ordered a size 6) but remember that you have to break them in seeing that they're leather and that they'll be a bit stiff and tight when you get them. With time they'll become softer and to help with that, it's suggested to get mink oil or the wonder balsam(whichever you prefer) They're the real Dr. martens for those who were wondering. Came in the original box with extra laces. There is just a small stitching mistake on the side of both shoes but it's not a big deal or in any case noticeable unless you're really picky about detail. Personally, I don't mind. They look great on and pretty much goes with everything. A great buy!
I LOVE THESE SOOO MUCH! Product came in original package, everything was new and no apparent damages to the product itself. My only complaint has nothing to do with the vendor, but the product itself. I read up A LOT on these shoes before buying them and everywhere I looked people had issues with the stiffness of the shoe or the process to break them in, it's all painfully true. I think it depends on your feet and the types of shoes you're used to wearing, but I think any new pair of Docs are going to come with some painful process. Some people complained about the soul, some people complained about their ankle, for me the pain is on top of my foot. I'm not sure how to describe it, but basically where your shoe would normally bend when you walk. It's excruciating. However, because I had done the research I knew what I was in for, so this wasn't a huge surprise. They're slowly becoming more comfortable and I LOVE them!
I bought the black smooth leather womens 1460 boot for $47.00ish (was $50ish with tax) At first I was a little skeptical about ordering these do to the low price and some other reviews about them not coming in the original box. Which made me think that they were knock-offs, but they aren't they are the originals. My boots came on time, and they were in the original box. They are so amazing and totally worth the money spent! Of course they are going to take some breaking in but I wore them all day with two pairs of socks and didn't hurt or blister my feet! Definitely going to look at more Doc Martens to buy!!
