The 1460 Pascal with front zip is an 8-eye women's boot with tons of tough doc's attitude, including two ways to fasten — laces and a zipper. Can be worn as lace-up or jungle boot. 8-Eye lace fastening. Removable zip front facing. Medial zip entry. Dr. Martens is the stuff of legends. It all began near Munich, Germany in 1945 when Dr. Klaus Maertens injured his foot in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps. To make walking easier during the healing process, he designed a shoe with an air-cushioned sole. Using old rubber tires, he constructed soles that had air trapped within closed compartments. He showed his prototype to his engineer/inventor friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they decided to develop and produce the shoes. Not only did the shoe solve the doctor's immediate problem, but it also started to sell well in Germany. By 1959 the two decided that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. At first, many manufacturers rejected the concept of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group, located in the village of Wollaston in England, decided to go along with the idea by creating the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. On the first of April 1960, the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460. To sell the brand name better in England, the name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was branded AirWair and the rest is history.

Dr. Martens, also known as Doc Martens, Docs, or DMs, has stomped its way into history since 1901. Originally created by Dr. Klaus Maertens, a German soldier who designed a comfortable air-cushioned boot to aid his recovery from a broken foot, the footwear quickly gained popularity. In 1960, the brand we know today was born with the iconic 1460 boot, adopted by British working-class youth and later embraced by various subcultures for its durability and rebellious spirit.
Dr. Martens prioritizes both timeless design and rugged construction. Their shoes are instantly recognizable by their air-cushioned sole, yellow stitching, and utilitarian details. Made with high-quality leather, Dr. Martens boots and shoes are built to withstand years of wear and tear, making them a true investment piece.
YAY zipperssss! I bought these boots to travel (many airports/countries) in and I like having something dependable on my feet but typical laced up boots can become a hassle when you’re on a time crunch....I know Bc I have other doc martens I’ve traveled in. But you have the best of both worlds here! So far I love the removable zipper. I broke them in over the weekend in Denver and we did A LOT of walking. I’m a 7.5-8 and I got the 8. I was so worried about the fit but it’s actually perfect !!!! My other docs are a 7 (The Leona vintage style boot) and fit perfect too so I would say that with this design maybe stay true to your size or go up a half size. I’ve worn thin ankle cut socks AND longer thick wool socks and the boots fit well and comfortably with both (that doesn’t usually happen). Yes, they can rough up your shin after many hours of wear but honestly that’s happened to me with every pair of short boots or even cowgirl boots I‘ve owned when I first get them. I think it has a lot to do with leg shape and how you walk. I recommend using the longer socks while breaking them in to avoid any irritation but they didn’t really bother much tbh. I absolutely love them and I get a lot of compliments!!!I also figured out a way to tie the laces so that they’re out of the way completely and I’ve uploaded pictures showing how I did it.
I wanted these for sooooo long but they were always sold out in my size. They finally had a pair I could get and I have zero regrets. They are stiff at first, and the right one seems a little tighter than the left. I'm just wearing thin socks until I can get them broken in. The red is really dark and pretty subtle which I love. But I imagine they'll lighten up over time, which I'm also okay with.
It takes quite some breaking in, but I love the sturdiness and look
Love the look and feel. They’re kind of tight around the calf but I guess it’s just part of breaking them in. These are high quality shoes and are such a great value. Don’t waste money of knockoffs. Real Docs are preferred and this specific style is super cute. Note that there are long laces that must be tied up after these are zipped up. The inside zipper is pretty useless as I found it easier to use the middle zipper. Overall, worth it though. The fit is great. The shoe looks great on. I would definitely buy again if it was offered in a different color.
These boots are super comfy and cute! They came packaged nicely and in perfect condition. I am a size 10 and ordered a size 10. They fit perfectly. With reading the reviews I was concerned they would be too tight, but not at all. I don’t have narrow feet or calves so I am not sure why people find them squeezing their feet? I wouldn’t suggest ordering up myself.
This is my first pair of Doc Martens and I am very pleased! The fit is perfect! I like how this pair has two sets of zippers. These boots are surprisingly comfortable and I feel so incredibly sure-footed in these boots. I like them so much that I’m now going to look at other styles.
Super high quality Dr. Martens. I took the zipper plates off the top laces and only use the side zipper, which is VERY convenient and stylish. No more bending over and lacing your boots at the door awkwardly trying to leave a gathering. Zip and go. Note: if you have a tall or high arch to your foot, prepare for the agony of where the boot will press. I’m breaking them in and slowly seeing improvements, but as someone with a very curvy high arch to my foot - it is ROUGH. I remember being able to slide Coke cans into them to stretch the top in the late 1990s, but now where the toe box meets the laces they’re so low you can’t even get a can in there. Worth it though, in my opinion, once it breaks in!!!
This was my first Dr Martens purchase, so I don't have anything to compare it to. I wear 10.5, and the research I did suggested I size down to a 10, so that's what I did. I knew there would be a breaking in period from the research I'd done beforehand, but they were just too small, period. Just wearing them for a short time cut off circulation in my foot, and I have narrow feet. I removed the inserts to see if that helped, and I was able to wear them a little longer, but had the same problem. They were GORGEOUS out of the box and I so wanted them to work out! Unfortunately, they're going back today and I intend to try sizing up to an 11. Even if they stretch, I can always wear thicker socks or tighten the laces if they're too loose. I prefer that to losing circulation in my feet any day. From my limited time with these boots, they seem impeccably made, and the cherry red color is perfection. They also seem very sturdy and supportive, with good arch support. I look forward to wearing a pair that fit properly!****************UPDATE******************I've had my new pair (US size 11) for five days now, and I'm in love with them. They're still stiff, but are more comfortable every time I wear them. I've received several compliments on them, and I love that I can just use the side zipper to get in and out of them instead of fussing with the laces all the time.
