I am new to riding clipless, and was looking for a shoe that was casual and as "normal looking" as possible. These shoes arrived the day before I was going on a 20 mile ride, so I knew I'd have to make a decision to keep them pretty quickly. As soon as I had tried them on, I knew I had found my SPD shoe. First of all, they look good...not stylish mind you, but they look like a normal shoe (think grey New Balance, etc.) The fit is like a normal sneaker, and feels really comfortable and normal to walk in even considering the stiffer cycling sole. The toe box is roomy, but the shoe feels snug and secure across the top of the foot and at the heel. So snug in fact that I found myself loosening the laces, only to lack enough lace to tie a proper bow... so the laces could be a little longer. I'm replacing the laces with a pair of reflective ones, so no biggie.Installing the cleat was easy, and I was surprised that I nailed the ideal position (for me) on the first go... clipping in and out was a breeze. One thing I noticed, I had also ordered a pair of Chrome Industries Kursk shoes and those were easier to clip out of... I found myself loosening the tension on the pedal one stop for the Giros (compared to where it was for the Chromes). The cleat is almost (but not quite) completely reassessed, so there is the slightest "click" when I walk, and on some surfaces it felt a little slippery, but nothing dangerous and eventually I barely noticed it.The shoe totally rocked the 20 mile ride, clipping in and out was easy and consistent, and my feet were comfortable all day long. No blisters, rubbing, or pinching at all. The only issue was one of the elastic bands across the tongue (for tucking in excess laces) popped off the first time I tried to use it. I hadn't pulled hard or anything, so I think the stitching must have been faulty. This wasn't a big deal at all though, and the rest of the shoe is solid.
These are a great pair of bike shoes. I use them for both road and mtb riding since I use SPD pedals on both bikes. I feel they run ever so slightly small, I ordered a size 45 and tend to wear 10.5 US so they may be a bit small, but the 45s work great for me. The sole is stiff enough I don't feel any flex and there is enough ventilation to help keep my feet comfortable. I think the blue look great and goes well with the blue theme on my bikes. I did find this exact shoe in all black with high vis yellow logos and boa dial at an online retailer for a third of the cost of these so I bought them for a second pair to have. The shoe is comfortable and the tightening system works well. They are relatively lightweight and good ventilation. Been on about 5 rides and really like these shoes. Very comfortable and worth a look if you need new riding kicks!
Great bike shoes for commuting. As other reviewers have mentioned, the size chart is not to be trusted. I wear a women's size 9 or 9.5 and in these shoes the EU 42 size fits perfectly, though typically I am a size 41 in EU sizes. These are not the most comfortable shoes I own, but they look classy and not like all of my other bike shoes so that is pretty awesome! Oh and keep in mind the large mesh panel above the toe box - your toes will get chilly biking around so wear some warm socks.
I wear 8.5 in women's athletic shoes (asics, Adidas, etc) and the 42's in this shoe fit great: wiggle room for toes without any heal slide. (I returned the 41's as they fit on my foot, but toes were just touching the front). Out of the box, I wore around the house for about 4 hours and felt a bit of a hot spot on top of one foot: that was fixed by simply loosening the laces a bit on that side. The next morning I did 40 road miles and shoes felt great the entire time. My feet are on the narrow side, and these do seem to run narrow. They look great, appear to be quite well made, and feel light and breathable.
Clips in and out perfectly and they are still pretty stylish. I like that they look like normal shoes and you can walk around in them without feeling the clips. I have wide feet, so they are a bit tight for me, but I knew that when I bought them. I just wish they had a wide version. I got caught in heavy rain with them and let them dry in the sun and after that they actually loosened up a bit. Overall very comfortable, functional, stylish shoe for a great price.
Great shoe overall. For summer it has pretty good ventilation. The sole feels stiff enough for good energy transfer and supportive enough to not feel any pressure points. Good traction and durability so far. I was skeptical about the boa system, but it does feel more supportive than a three-strap system. For winter the ventilation becomes an issue. I am still trying to find the right solution to block the warmth. With wool socks and neoprene shoe cover, my toes are still a little numb below 40 degrees.
I own 10.5 (45) Shimano shoes which I was hoping to replace with these at size 10.5 but unfortunately these are sized one size lower meaning that their 10.5 is actually a 44. I am returning them for size 11 (which is actually 45). This shoe is NARROW so beware. I have narrow feet so it shouldn’t be an issue but if your ft are avg or wide you will likely find these too narrow. I prefer a well fitted shoe (narrow) for riding as it wraps my foot and reduces movement (friction) and therefore the potential for blisters. Another issue with these shows is that the top wire/cable tends to cut off circulation to the foot of the shoe is tightened down well. There is little to no padding in the tongue and the top wire eats into the foot. Because of this, I give these shoes 3 stars. Beyond that, they vent and fit well.
