With a sturdy, lightweight zig-zag sole, the new voss women's sandal by Dr. Martens has tons of classic doc's durability and tough attitude in an edgy-yet-comfortable wedge platform style. Dr. Martens is the stuff of legends. It all began near Munich, Germany in 1945 when Dr. Klaus Maertens injured his foot in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps. To make walking easier during the healing process, he designed a shoe with an air-cushioned sole. Using old rubber tires, he constructed soles that had air trapped within closed compartments. He showed his prototype to his engineer/inventor friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they decided to develop and produce the shoes. Not only did the shoe solve the doctor's immediate problem, but it also started to sell well in Germany. By 1959 the two decided that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. At first, many manufacturers rejected the concept of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group, located in the village of Wollaston in England, decided to go along with the idea by creating the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. On the first of April 1960, the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460. To sell the brand name better in England, the name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was branded AirWair and the rest is history.

Dr. Martens, also known as Doc Martens, Docs, or DMs, has stomped its way into history since 1901. Originally created by Dr. Klaus Maertens, a German soldier who designed a comfortable air-cushioned boot to aid his recovery from a broken foot, the footwear quickly gained popularity. In 1960, the brand we know today was born with the iconic 1460 boot, adopted by British working-class youth and later embraced by various subcultures for its durability and rebellious spirit.
Dr. Martens prioritizes both timeless design and rugged construction. Their shoes are instantly recognizable by their air-cushioned sole, yellow stitching, and utilitarian details. Made with high-quality leather, Dr. Martens boots and shoes are built to withstand years of wear and tear, making them a true investment piece.
I’ve been a loyal Dr Marten customer for years; I have many pairs of their boots, but this is my first time trying out their sandals. Doc does not disappoint. These are fantastic.I’m a size 10, purchased a size 10, and they fit perfectly. There are two adjustable straps- one on the top/outer side and one behind/outer side of the heel, allowing you the option for more/less wiggle room. The bottoms are treaded really nicely so the grip is great; you won’t be slipping on anything in these bad boys. The arch and heel support is unreal. I have plantar fasciitis, so this is a really important factor for me personally. They’re so comfortable. I took my dog for a LONG walk as soon as these came in, and it was like I was walking on a supportive cloud. They’re not squishy or anything; they’re just super supportive. These are very well constructed -like all Docs- and the design is nice. Not super fancy, but you could spruce it up and wear these with a cute outfit if you wanted. Not super casual, but comfortable enough to lounge around in. They’re in that sweet spot, making for a great staple shoe. The color is great, too. I ordered the Hydro, and they’re like a matte black finish, which looks real sharp. These are definitely made to last. Great sandal. I have a feeling I’ll be wearing these almost everyday this summer.I would definitely recommend these to anyone. They’re worth every penny in my opinion.
I needed walking sandals to wear on our family vacation but I didn’t want hiking style sandals or old lady style sandals lol. I didn’t get the chance to break them in beforehand so the first time I wore them was during my vacation. I was a little worried because Docs can sometimes run big on me (I have small feet) but I went ahead and ordered my usual size 5. They fit perfectly. The straps are adjustable so you can customize the fit better. The platform is the perfect height, not too tall. The sole is soft and has just enough give to make them comfortable on long walks. I was pleasantly surprised at how lightweight they are considering the somewhat bulky style. I did get a blister on the heel of my right foot but to be fair, my right foot is smaller than my left foot so I had to tighten that side more than the left side. My left foot was fine, no blisters. I’m sure once I break them in, they will be fine. I got a lot of compliments on them too. I love Robert Wayne retailer but the store in our mall closed permanently during Covid so I was bummed about that. I’m so glad that I can still shop with them through Amazon!
I have a hard foot to fit and usually can only wear Docs and Birks. I wanted a sandal that was a little edgier and gave these a try because my Doc boots (I have several) are so comfortable. I am on my feet all day and have major back problems. I also have a super wide foot (think Fred Flintstone. LOL) These were PERFECT right out of the box. No break in period at all and ridiculously comfortable. I am crossing my fingers they last as long as the boots do! I love the fact that I can adjust the fit 2 ways as there are 2 buckled straps. These will be my go to on long days when it's too hot for boots! I wear a 10 in docs /Euro 41 and these fit perfect.
These fit perfectly, and we’re comfortable on the first wearing. I do think they run a bit big. I wear 8.5/8 I am glad I went ahead and bought the 8’s. Straps are adjustable. Sandals are quite cute. My first pair of Dr Martens - based upon these I’m looking at some boots now. I like these a lot, both comfy and attractive. Glad I tried this brand👍🏼
These fit as expected and were even more comfortable than I thought--with or without socks/hosiery.
I gave this four stars only because they gave me blisters along the strap area in my toes. I think you made need to break them in though. I really like the sandals overall. The base of the shoe is very comfortable and I was going to just put bandaids on the areas that rubbed. Sadly, I left these shoes at the Airbnb I was staying at overseas, but I’ll probably buy again and see if I can break them in for more comfort.
I have been wanting a pair of Doc Martens for years and finally saved my money to buy a pair of sandals. I am shocked that they broke when they were still brand new! I was walking casually when I heard a pop sound, looked down, and realized that the shoe had completely come apart at the seam. I would like to receive a replacement for these shoes. I always thought that Doc Martens was known for their quality, so I was completely shocked. As you can see from the photos, the shoes were only worn a few times before this happened, so they must not be the quality I was expecting. :-( They are unwearable at this point. Definitely would not recommend.
I wore these a few times and had no problem but when I took them with me to a trip to Thailand I walked around all day in them and they made my feet swell and I got cuts on my feet from them. They're super cute but not great for all day wear. You can maybe get a few hours out of them but don't push it.
