About Hiking Shoes

Invest in Your Adventure: Choosing the Perfect Hiking Shoe for Every Hike

The beauty of hiking lies in its accessibility. All you need is a sense of adventure, a good pair of legs, and the right hiking shoes to explore breathtaking trails. But with a vast array of hiking shoes available, choosing the perfect pair can feel daunting. Don't worry, outdoor enthusiasts! This guide will equip you with the knowledge to navigate the world of hiking shoes, ensuring you find the ideal companion for every adventure, from leisurely strolls on groomed paths to challenging treks through rugged terrain.

Know Your Terrain: Matching Hiking Shoes to Your Adventures

The most important factor to consider when choosing hiking shoes is the type of terrain you'll be tackling. Here's a breakdown of popular hiking shoe options for different terrains:

  • Day Hiking Shoes: These versatile shoes are ideal for well-maintained trails and moderate hikes. They offer good traction, comfort, and breathability for day trips on easy to moderate terrain.
  • Backpacking Boots: For overnight backpacking adventures or hikes with heavier loads, consider backpacking boots. They provide superior ankle support, stability, and a sturdier sole for carrying a backpack comfortably on uneven or rough terrain.
  • Trail Running Shoes: If you prioritize speed and agility on well-maintained trails, trail running shoes might be a good option. They offer lightweight construction, flexibility, and good traction for faster-paced hiking or trail running.

Considering the Elements: Waterproofing and Breathability

The weather conditions you'll encounter can influence your shoe choice:

  • Waterproof Hiking Shoes: For hikes in wet or rainy conditions, consider waterproof hiking shoes. These shoes feature a waterproof membrane that keeps your feet dry while maintaining breathability.
  • Breathable Hiking Shoes: For warm weather hikes or situations where breathability is a priority, choose breathable hiking shoes made from mesh or other lightweight materials.

Fit for Adventure: Ensuring Comfort on the Trail

Comfort is key for enjoyable hikes. Here's what to consider for a proper fit:

  • Proper Sizing: Ill-fitting shoes can lead to blisters and fatigue. Get professionally sized for hiking shoes, considering factors like width and arch support.
  • Try Before You Buy: Don't underestimate the importance of trying on hiking shoes with the socks you plan to wear on your hikes. Ensure a snug but comfortable fit with good heel lock.
  • Break-in Period: New hiking shoes might feel stiff initially. Wear them for short walks before your big adventure to break them in and avoid blisters.

Invest in Your Adventure: The Perfect Hiking Shoe Awaits

The right hiking shoes can make all the difference in your hiking experience. By prioritizing the factors discussed in this guide, you can choose a pair that perfectly matches your hiking style, terrain, and weather conditions. Remember, comfortable and supportive hiking shoes are an investment in your outdoor adventures. So, lace up for your next hike with confidence, knowing you have the perfect footwear to conquer any trail!

Great foot hugging comfortable shoe

Wow, Bass shoes on sale super cheap, my lucky day! Very comfortable, conformed to the shape of my feet. One foot is a half size bigger than the other but not noticeable in these shoes, both fit well. As with other reviewers, I had to use the loop to get my heel in, but that’s what it’s for! It’s intentional for better fit, which keeps them on my feet, especially the smaller one. Very happy with them. Paid more than the sale price of these for similar shoes but no way they were of better quality than these. Even if I had paid full price, they’d have been worth every penny. Bass shoes are and always have been the best.

Difficult to put on.

I like the boot but the vamp needs to be cut lower or a zipper added up the front. Very difficult to get your foot in.

Great Quality Shoes

I have liked Bass shoes for a very long time but have not seen them anywhere for a while. They’re great quality and this pair is particularly substantial. I got these since the description said “hiking shoe” but these are rubber (not that breathable) and a little too heavy for anything other than a light hike. What these will be amazing for is going out in rainy or snowy weather. They are comfortable and fit really well. I saw others mention they are hard to get on but I didn’t have any trouble once I used both tabs (tongue and heel) at the same time to pull them on. I have high arches and instep with an almost wide toe area and these fit my foot perfectly. They are very comfortable and run pretty true to size. I was worried that I should have sized up but my usual size 8 fit fine. If you plan to wear thick socks or if you are in between sizes, definitely size up. The quality justifies the price in my opinion and these should hold up well for years and years.

Great shoe for wet weather !!!

I read other reviews and worried these wouldn’t fit ! I’m a size 9 and bought a 9. Perfect. I will note here that my feet are narrow .. I also use the pull tabs to put on-perfect. Just stepping into these shoes without using the tabs won’t work.. Once on, these shoes are comfortable , warm, and seem to show good workmanship . They don’t make my feet look huge and aren’t clunky or heavy. Very pleased.

Very hard to get heel in shoe

Nice heavy duck shoe. Very difficult to get my very narrow AA foot in it. Had to put on thin slick socks and use a shoehorn to get feet into the shoe. Put shoe stretchers in each one and see it that helps. Guess that’s why they r so cheap. Certainly seem durable and good to wear in rain. As long as you are willing to take the time and effort to get them on.

Runs Narrow

As other reviewers have noted, these are a bit challenging to get on. I found they get easier as you break them in, but I keep a shoehorn with them. Since I ordered them for outdoor hiking, I have been wearing them on the treadmill to break them in/try them out, as there is nothing worse than being a few miles out before you realize your feet are being tortured by new shoes that just don't work. With no socks on, for the first try on, these shoes were comfortable. The padding in the soles is amazing. Like walking on clouds. Not sure yet how this will translate to outdoor stability, so far it is great. For the first treadmill trial I wore thick hiking socks. The kind I would normally wear when hiking through water. I only lasted about 1.5 miles, going uphill at a brisk pace. (3-3.5) Gave in an took them off, and when they came off I had crazy pins and needles all through both feet. I tried again the next day with thinner socks. That was MUCH better. I think that the combination of breaking in, and of course less fabric, made all the difference. I went the full hour with no discomfort. After all those miles in them, I think the issue that people are noticing with the fit is that they are narrow. The length is fine, but they are tight across the arch of the foot.I am going to put the thick socks back on, and use them for short distances to continue to break them in to a point where I feel confident wearing them for long periods out of doors. I think they are going to end up being great, but I do wonder if another pair would have started out at the place I am going to have to work so hard to get to.

Comfortable and functional

First off, I have to say that these are probably the ugliest shoes I now have in my closet, however, they are probably also the most comfortable. The only issue I had with these is that they were a tad on the small size. I wish I had gotten a half size up. I can, however, wear thinner socks with them and they fit fine and are comfortable, I just generally prefer a thicker sock. If that is you as well, I would recommend a half size larger than your normal to make room for the socks. These wear nice, they feel good when they are on, almost like a house slipper. We are in Florida and we are in the rainy season, so these are nice to be able to keep in the car and be able to throw them on when the weather turns bad quickly. I've walked around quite a bit in these and they feel good, wear well, and are functional in that they keep the water out. If you get water over the ankle, some does get into the shoe, but just walking around in them, they work great. These are good for rain, sand, mud, and would probably work for snow as well as they have a decent tread.

WAY TOO SMALL

I usually wear a womens 6. This was insanely small. I couldnt get my foot inside at all. They look very very well made though.
