I got these at a end of season sale, so you bet, great value for money. And I've seen the new spring models, you would never know these are from last season-not that my husband cares. Anyway. because of the zero toe/heel drop it's good for him; and because of the wide toe box, it allows a healthy foot placement and the ability to wear them all day long without your feet becoming tired; and because of the dense yet cushiony support under the whole foot he reaches for these each day rather than any of the 6 or so other pair sitting on the shelf. I have some too and they are amazing - walks, gym workouts, short runs of 2-5 miles, or simply, life.
This is my fifth or sixth pair of Altra Torins. Primary reasons are all in the title. I've seen complaints about poor construction, but as a running shoe, I've never had a problem before just wearing out the soles. I had tried a return to Brooks Ghosts, but I prefer the forefoot cushioning of the Altra. At this price, they can't be beat.
I’ll start off by saying that I was in a pretty serious accident that pretty much destroyed my left ankle and broke very many other bones in my foot. After asking my physical therapist what they recommended for comfort/support, they recommended me these. I work 6-8 hours on my feet at a time at a part time job so I needed something that was going to be comfortable and supportive during that time. These fit the bill. After almost 3 weeks of wearing them opposed to what I was wearing before, I’ve noticed significant decreases in swelling and fatigue at my ankle. That is pretty remarkable to me.Things I like :- how they fit; they seem to be pretty true to size.- how they feel; they’re extremely supportive and support the natural movement of your foot.- how they look; they don’t have a ridiculous sole or design that looks super goofy.- the wide toe box; this feels great and definitely helps with providing plenty of room for your little guys.- the construction; other than a small part of the sole, the rest of the shoe seems like it will last a long time.- the price. These were $75 shipped, and seem like a great shoe at that price point. I’m pretty happy.Things that could be improved :- like other reviews have mentioned, the adhesive holding the front part of the sole starts to come apart after not long. Doesn’t affect anything, just something to note.- the tongue. There is nothing inherently wrong with it other than the fact it likes to lay over to the side and you have to constantly adjust it. This doesn’t affect anything either, but it’s something worth noting.Bottom line, I would recommend this shoe to about anybody who needs something that is just comfortable, or is like me and needs extra core support for an injury, or just long periods on their feet. Great bang for your buck. I know I mentioned it earlier in the review, but these were recommended by an orthopedic physical therapist who also wears them. They definitely lived up to my expectations.
I bought these for my son for wrestling practice, Nike and Under Armor running sneakers have left him with terrible blisters on his feet. They do hours of running with hundreds of stairs every day which is hard on any running shoes. These are perfect for him, they have a very wide toe box and the padding around the heal is amazing, no breaking them in required. It feels like memory foam around the heal/ankle. The only other shoes that he has loved were Brook’s Ghosts, these are also great neutral shoe option, if not better.
The shoes feel amazing and fit great, particularly for my wide feet. This is the second pair, however, where the treads on the bottom came off entirely within 4 months. I think the glue they used to secure the tread must be low-quality. Very frustrating to lose my nice pair of shoes to poor glueing when everything else works so well
Zero drop and just the right amount of cushion. They are most similar in fit to older New Balance shoes. I ended up buying 6 more pairs while they are on sale / discontinued. They only last 300-400 miles, but that’s the trade-off for a lighter more supple shoe.
I’ve been ordering Altra Torin running shoes for a few years and loved the fit. Unfortunately, when ordering the same size in the Torin 6 & 7 the company in there infinite wisdom changed from “original fit” to “standard fit” without notice. Yes if you thoroughly research you can find this. However, being that I have ordered previous models with no problem I ordered the same size as always in the newer models and was totally dissatisfied with the fit. I started buying Altra Torin for the original foot shape but they are no better than any other tight brand. Way to go Altra I guess I’ll go back to New Balance!Update: After going to a store that sells them. I decided to give them another chance. What I figured out is that they are now about a 1/2 size smaller. I did purchase from the retailer a pair of Torin 7 but 1/2 size larger. They are just as comfortable as always. I change my review, I just with the company would leave well enough alone.
I adore these shoes for their impeccable fit, ensuring maximum comfort during my diverse workouts, which range from 20-90 minutes of calisthenics and weight gym training to running 5-20km. The just-right cushioning adds to the appeal—neither too much nor too little. Despite being a versatile shoe, the durability disappoints; after just a few months, the soles are noticeably worn. As a fan who appreciates the $59 bargain, I've repurchased them, but Altra could win more fans with improved quality control.
